How Hillary Clinton Won the 2014 Midterms

For those who are cheered by wonky numbers-crunching, here's some crunchy granola for post-Election morning:

In 2012, Mitt Romney won 59 percent of white voters, a higher share than Ronald Reagan's in 1980 and George W. Bush's in 2004. But Romney still lost to Obama. Why? Because America’s minority electorate is growing every year. To hit 50.1 percent in 2016, the Republican nominee will have to win a whopping 64 percent of the white vote on Election Day — or significantly improve the party’s standing among nonwhite voters, especially Hispanics. Otherwise, he or she will lose just like Romney.

YAHOO NEWS: How Hillary Clinton won the 2014 midterms The GOP had a good night. But the map, the math and the reality of Washington dysfunction favor the presumptive Democratic nominee in 2016

How Hillary Clinton Won the 2014 Midterms

This article's persuasive thesis is that Clinton is looking great in 2016 because the number of Congressional seats up in 2016 in Democratic leaning districts is far greater than that in 2014.

But that's true no matter how the results were last night, and if the results had gone the other way last night, it would have, if anything, said that they'd lean even further in favor of Hillary in 2016.

What I expected the article to say, and which it doesn't, is that there's always a yin and a yang here, and that last night's results might have told us all one thing that will surely help Clinton in 2016.

If you don't get your ass out and vote, then you have no one to blame for the government you elect! Therefore, it's of tantamount importance to get out and vote.

I'm sick and tired of an American populace who can only get excited about whether their chief executive represents the political image they want, don't give a crap about the rest of government, don't show up to vote in midterm elections so as to provide a representative government, and give us the kind of Congress we are about to have. I'm also sick and tired of a Democratic party which goes more by polls than reality, WHICH IS FAR BETTER AT KNEEJERK REACTING TO POLLS THAN CREATING A MESSAGE WHICH CHANGES POLLS and did everything they could to throw Obama under the bus in this election...... how did that work for you, Democrats!?

“Take a look at this: gas under $3 a gallon – under $3 a gallon. Unemployment under 6%, whoever thought? Stock market breaking records every day. No wonder the guy is so unpopular.”David Letterman Add to that Osama Bin Laden is dead and Americans have health insurance! And what do the Dems do? By and large act as if Democratic leadership deserves to be dismissed as ineffective. Why? Because of the damn polls which are a result of their having no ability to be on message and stay on message. They're fools!

And then there may well be the Democratic constituencies, who having real gripes with Obama (like his horrible record on immigration and deportation, among other things), who are happy to shooting themselves in the foot by not voting and failing to support Dems for Senate.

A curse on all our houses!

I've been saying it for years now. This is exactly why the GOP, if they were smart, would start polishing up that turd known as Marco Rubio.

"This is exactly why the GOP, if they were smart, would start polishing up that turd known as Marco Rubio."

I'm sure they'll run right out and take your advice.

Liberals are the scum of the earth. Tim Scott won South Carolina and moments later Twitter was full of people calling him an Uncle Tom. Mia Love has won Utah and I'm sure they will be just as racist to her as they were to Condi Rice.

The GOP is the party of inclusion, despite all the hatred that liberals throw at them.

Goth, your lumping all liberals together with some who say highly objectionable things does you as much honor as your calling the Republican party the party of inclusion boosts your credibility.

Goth, how in your mind is a party that fosters anti-gay marriage sentiment, miniority disenfranchisement, anti-immigration mentality, restriction on women's rights, and panders xenophobia the party of inclusion?

There is a reason "miniority" voters turn away from the GOP in droves, and it's not because the Democrats are Machiavellian (would that the party was moreso).

It's sad to see how blind people are.

Kad, at the moment we should be anti-immigration. Our economy is in tatters. Despite the lies that come out of the Obama administration, unemployment is still very high. You want to add extra weight to a system that is about to break?

If anything, you should realize that the GOP wins in this election mean that people are tired of the way that Obama is running the country. They are hoping for something better.

Wake up Sally Bowles, your country is headed down the toilet.

The Republicans don't have a centrist candidate. Rubio and Cruz have to decide whether to give up their senate seats-and neither one is a centrist. They are highly divisive candidates (and in Florida the incumbent Scott barely squeaked through to retain his Governor's seat). Christie is from a small state which, as noted in that article, has some fiscal problems, and Christie himself is not universally liked by the GOP. They're a highly divided party and I'm not sure that's going to change much in two years. The tea baggers scare a lot of moderate Republicans.

I don't know if the Dems are any more unified (I think slightly more so). But, the article points to some reasons why Hillary or perhaps another Dem could win in 2016.

Remember the other day when the right completely misrepresented Obama's comments about working mothers? There's your scum of the earth.

Rubio is most definitely not a centrist. He's a tea bag Republican. (Trust me, I know-my family is in Florida.) He even said in an article that there is no need for a centrist Republican candidate.

Goth, please answer my question. Do not change the topic. How is the GOP the party of inclusion when it supports alienating policies to miniorities?

Sure if you call someone a centrist who;s been called the "Crown Prince" of the Tea party, opposes stimulis packages, favors extending the Bush tax cuts, favors Second Amendment absolutism, opposes the capital gains tax, the reauthorization of the Violence and Against Women Act. same sex marriage, the legalization of marijuana, the right to privacy and reproductive freedom a centrist.

How is the GOP the party of inclusion when it supports alienating policies to minorities?

Actually, that's a question we Democrats better answer before the next election: How (and why) do the Republicans keep getting minority candidates elected as Republicans?

How Hillary Clinton Won the 2014 Midterms

"Goth, please answer my question. Do not change the topic. How is the GOP the party of inclusion when it supports alienating policies to miniorities?"

Is that really a serious question?

You assume that all miniorities want the same thing? That's the problem with you Dems. You think everyone should fit into the boxes that you have devised.

You assume every gay is interested in marriage. You assume every woman's concern in the workplace is money.

You assume way too much. And despite the fact that things are demonstrated over and over again (Democrats pay women less in government jobs than their male counterparts) you will use the same old tired script. Change the record.

Meanwhile, many conservatives are saying, "The GOP will just screw this up, the way they've screwed up every other landslide they've ever had."

(But we should stop asking why women vote GOP and start forcing Democrats starting with the White House to pay women equally, because that **** is just embarrassing.)

Anyway, there are lots of articles like this appearing on blogs:

"You assume every gay is interested in marriage. You assume every woman's concern in the workplace is money."

You really shouldn't be criticizing broad generalizations by making broad generalizations.

You STILL haven't answered my question.

What POLICIES, what IDEOLOGY, make the GOP the party of inclusion?

Saying that some women don't care about making less, or some LGBT don't care about equal treatment or protection under the law isn't an answer.

Are you implying that the GOP is the party of inclusion by NOT supporting marriage equality, etc. because SOME people don't want it?

Say whatever you want, but here are the facts. Obama started his Presidency with control of both the House and Senate. In six years, he lost control of both.

I hope Hillary Clinton can fart rainbows like Obama did, because people are tired of the way things are now.
