Posted: 4/5/06 at 4:11pmI've only seen 18 of them, but there were about 20-25 on my "must see someday" list. But the rest I really am not interested in.

Posted: 4/5/06 at 4:51pmI have only seen 11. I guess I go to the movies too much and see the bad ones my friends want to see. There were only like 4 movies that were actually made the year I was born or later. I should watch some of these movies though. I have seen clips of a lot of them though. That would bring my list to about 20!

Posted: 4/5/06 at 6:16pmIt's a crime how many incredibly great movies are missing from the list. It's almost as if they looked at Netflix and tried to decipher what people rented when they searched under "classic movies". So many silents were disregarded, and the Pre-code era is practically shut out as well.

89.
These lists are always bogus, anyway. I can't take seriously any list of the 100 Greatest Anything that puts Singin In The Rain in it's Top Ten.

I figured, Margo.
For the record, I think the list was made in 1996. That's why American Beauty isn't even considered and Titanic (whether you agree or not, I would think it would fit SOMEWHERE on the list) isn't present
I wish they'd make a revised list every ten years, so they could factor in some movies of the last ten years and bump of Yankee Doodle Dandy, Bringing Up Baby, etc.

I would like to say that I don't think Dances with Wolves should be on there. But now that I've typed it, I think that that makes me a racist, so maybe I shouldn't say that. Hmmmm...

Posted: 4/6/06 at 3:50pmMabel, the list was made in 1998. I remember because I watched the program on T.V. and every year after that they've always had a Top 100 show.

Posted: 4/6/06 at 10:30pmI've seen them all. In my opinion, a good one third don't deserve to be on the list, with Guess Who's Coming To Dinner probably leading the line-up of the unworthy, although Forrest Gump is right up there. This is one of those meaningless Hollywood establishment type things--very tied in to the Academy Awards and various conventional notions of social significance. If you're young and don't know any better, please don't take this list as any sort of genuine aesthetic barometer.

Posted: 4/7/06 at 3:48amStageManager, do you know when the actual cut off for films to be considered was? For some reason I think it was 1996, maybe because that was the 100th anniversary of film??? I remember investigated because I was surprised Titanic wasn't on the list, and I remember concluding that it just missed the cut off.

All of them.
It's been ages since I've seen a few of them. I should add them to the list of movies to rent again...
