re: How're your classes this year?

I think I'm the "youngen" here.... I'll be a sophomore.... and now is the time when I have to start thinking about SAT's and ACTs.... does anyone else on this board have to take the ACTs??? All the eastern schools accept SAT's but if you want to go to school west... as far as I know... you need ACTs as well. (I live in Idaho)(and NO i am not a potato farmer!) I will be cramming for both SAT & ACT and taking them numerous times in the next 3 years... but personally I am SO excited about the essay portion of the new SAT!!! That is definitely my forte!

And all of your schools btw sound much better than mine.... my school only offers ONE fricking AP class!!! (and no honors or anything like that!) ....so as much as I'd like to be advancing on to those more challenging courses... I'm kinda stuck! We don't even have good electives. AND our music dept. sucks terribly. We have a little concert band... no orchestra... and ONE choir. This year I taking it upon myself to start a show choir though (out of school hrs.) so that will be fun... but ya, pretty much I am jelous of everyone else's high school!!!

As for my classes this year... I think they are alright:

Biology
Spanish
U.S. History (2nd semester independent study)
Aglebra 2
Business Law
English
Publications (yrbk/nwsppr)
Debate
Choir

...any other Debaters here??? :)

re: How're your classes this year?

I have exactly 1 core class this semester and 3 electives. That's the way I had to arrange it so that I didn't have to take PE. But next semester I have 3 core classes and 1 elective, so it all evens out.

Semester 1
Advanced Drama
Fashion 1 (first nine weeks) / Health (second nine weeks)
Patriot Singers (our most advanced choir)
Modern US History

Semester 2
Algebra II/Trig Honors
Patriot Singers
Chemistry II (I'm thinking about changing to AP Chem if I can.)
English 11 Honors

Fashion is not as fun as I thought it would be. Mostly because most of the class, including my teacher's idea of high fashion is a Dooney & Burke bag. (I have a severe loathing of that brand for some unforseen reason)Oh well, I only took it because Health is required and that was the only other interesting 1/2 credit elective.

My teachers screwed me over in middle school by not putting me in advanced math. I could have been taking Pre-Calc this year. And math is totally my best subject. I always get 95-100% on my tests.

With everyone else's schools, do you have to get done with all of your required classes in a subject before you can take an AP? And you have to take an AP in place of your elective in all subjects except Science. Like in English, we have to do the required English 9-12 classes and then we can do the AP. And in History, we have to do all of the 4 required histories, and then take the AP, which is also a year long class. I feel like that's screwing me over to get into a school for musical theatre/vocal performance where you have to get accepted to the university first. I'll have choir and drama for my major, but basically no APs to get into the college.

re: How're your classes this year?

No, I did not skip any grades. However, I DID attend a private school before, and my birthday just happened to fall right before their cutoff date, so I'm quite young for my grade. And the reason why my classes are so out of proportion is because the way our school district offers high school credit for MATH classes during middle school, but not for any other class. And I had to take the SAT's because they were required for an honors high school I was applying to.

This is my signature.

re: How're your classes this year?

mad4music - my school didn't have a single AP class. it had a whole non-competitive philosophy (and AP classes woud cause competition...) so we didn't have AP, honors, CP, or anything like that. but we also didn't have scheduled study halls -- we were responsible for our own free time. i think that's really going to help me out in college because i'm already used to managing my time. it's also going to be weird called people "mrs" or "professor"...because at my school it was a rule that we called all the teachers by their first names....so that'll be a change!!

aigoo - i'm young too!! i'm starting college @ 16 (eek!!)...but i did skip a grade, and i started kindergarten when i was 4. and also, even though you do have to take the NEW SAT for college stuff, don't worry about your score. first of all, it's a FINE score, and second - statistics show that most people's scores in fact DON'T go up if they retake the SAT (granted that conditions are the same, etc. i forgot to turn the page in an english section and thought i was done when i really had 18 questions left...so my score went up from a 1220 to a 1490 the second time..hahha! it was stupid).

No study halls this year... not that I've had any before. It's going to be stressful for me, but I put myself up to it. Plus there is student council twice a month, other activities, work, and babysitting.

re: How're your classes this year?

You really won't be penalized for not taking AP classes when your school doesn't offer then. It's just a bad thing when your school does and you didn't take take them. I despise how my school doesn't offer all AP courses. Honors...honestly I have no clue how that really works since I've been in honors classes since middle school, so I really can't imagine how classes can be brought down a level.

I'm just a very bitter person that I have to take Physics next year. Had I decided on going to your run of the mill high school, I would probably be taking something else since I already have a HS Earth Science credit from middle school. They don't even have a real drama department in my school. :sigh: Really great programs in things I'm not that into. Thank goodness for our partnership with Queens College.

It would all honestly be fantastic if debate and mock trial/moot court were classes in my school instead of academic teams, since they take up so much time after school.

If I had room for another elective I would take film or something like that. :/

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

re: How're your classes this year?

This year is gonna be my senior year. I took the SATs once last year, got a 2270 by the new standards, 1530 by the old, so I'm just gonna leave it at that. No need to press my luck, I'd probably wind up going down. Anyway, here's my course list for this year (I'm in a Catholic school, so the religion courses are a must)

-AP English Lit
-AP Psychology
-AP Physics
-AP Calc (not too sure about this, the school wasn't sure if they could fit it in my schedule since both calc and physics are double periods every day)
-AP Faith
-Women in Christian HERstory and Tradition
-Law
-Concert Choir
-Chamber Choir
-Spanish
-Intro to Economics
-Phys. Ed.

I think that's about it. Lol hopefully it'll be a fun year...
