Actually, I think now that NPH is not out, and that's why I mentioned the dilemma. He is "out" only to some people, or whatever. Anyway, the issue is not "outing" people, since I do not want that...the issue is having enough respect for ourselves to be who we are.

I am not referring to you, but some of the posts here are homophobic, without even meaning to be so. I guess that's what bothers me more than anything.

So, now that this thread has been sufficeintly derailed, i think all this fuss is just hillarious. Some of you guys need to just take a quualude and chill. It seriously is no different to gossip about brangelina than it to gossip about hughmosexuals (thank you JRB for that lovely addition to the lexicon). Frankly, it's just so damn fun. and until we americans start using their time to improve the world, you are just gonna have to deal with people like me saying jackman is a big mo.

This is an issue I've discussed pretty extensively, with someone who HAS made a media statement and the whole nine yards. Anyway, NPH is... let me see if I can get this right. I think he'd be considered "open" because he doesn't necessarily hide the fact that he dates men -- but technically, for a celebrity, to be "out" is constituted by making a statement to the media: thanking your partner in a Playbill bio, saying something in an interview, etc. So, no. NPH isn't "out," but not totally closeted, either.

What is the attraction you have to adrogynous men?

he looks like a combination of Orlando Bloom and Nicole Kidman, so, you know, a really effeminate man and really butch woman, combined.

Look pops, I suggest you do a search if you don't know who Travis Fimmel is.

Travis Fimmel is on my List of Five...

And I still maintain that the core of this issue is privacy.

Jeez, i leave for dinner and a show and miss all the fun.
When you decide to be an actor/public figure, you make a Faustian deal. Your life, especially in this information age, is accessible to everyone. Whether you're straight or gay. Somehow, i think $5 million a picture helps ease the pain of us gossips.
And anyway, in this particular case, i haven't posted anything that's not already out there (on the net or in print.)

But Addy--why is privacy ONLY an issue when it comes to celebrities who are rumored to be gay?

Frankly, I wish there were MORE privacy when it comes to overexposed heterosexual celebrities like Jennifer Anniston, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I'm sick of hearing about their sex lives. Enough.

Privacy only seems to be an issue when it comes to celebrities like Hugh Jackman, George Clooney and Sean Hayes?

Yes, I know you didn't, but the privacy thing seems to be called for only when people are saying a celebrity is gay.

Um. No.

Lindsay Lohan or Reese Witherspoon driving on the freeway getting rammed by the papparazzi, while trying to run errands, is a privacy issue as well.

I disagree.

I respect the privacy of Nicole Kidman when she declined to ever speak about her divorce from Tom Cruise.

I respect the privacy of Mary Louise Parker when she declined to ever speak about her split from Billy Crudup.

I respect the privacy of those celebrities who choose to raise their children out of the spotlight.

It has absolutely nothing to do with gay issues.

Talk, talk, talk about outing someone over their sexuality by people who insist on remaining anonymous on a message board.

It's a bit ludicrous.

I suspect some of you would quickly change your tune if there were to be mandatory outing of the real person behind online screen names.

Just something to think about.

Who cares what his sexual preference is. It's not like he's going to go out with any of you. Geez.
