Morning!
Its freezing here too, but its supposed to get up to the mid 60's! Yay!
This morning, after I go to Italian, I have an appointment with the career advisor and she is going to help me narrow down what I should major in... I honestly have NO CLUE, so hopefully she can help! Fingers crossed!

Maisie, you better post pictures!
Tofu, I might get canned from my job... I think I'm gonna call in for the millionth time so I can go to the Bye Bye Birdie open call. I'm at the point where I really want to quit, so it's kinda a risk I'm willing to take.

the blonde is growing in darker so I think its inevitable
Yeah I used to be super blonde like you are Maisie, but it kept getting darker so I went for a change and dyed it darker. But go for the highlights, you're such a cute little blonde!
And update on Peter Pan: I got called back for Tiger Lily, which I'm a little disappointed with because I've played the role before and I really wanted to go for Peter. But the director called back a few girls with short pixie haircuts (I guess my hippie hair didn't do it for him LOL) and a ton of boys. Whaaaaat?? I can't even begin to list the things that are wrong with casting a boy as Peter. Well callbacks are on Wednesday so I'll let you all know how this works out. But I'm just putting it out there, if a boy is cast as Peter I won't do the show. I refuse to be associated with such crap LOL
And Piano, where do you go to school? For some reason I didn't realize you were in college.

BB, even if it's not the part you want...I bet you're almost guaranteed to get it, considering you've been there, done that. And yeah, boy as Peter = bad move. I'm thinking the director doesn't realize the irony of Peter Pan. Good luck, though!
Maisie, I can't wait to see your hair! I think highlights will be a cute, subtle change.
Piano, I hope you get somewhere in your meeting! You're a freshman, right? Just remember that whatever you declare right now isn't the be-all-end-all of your college experience, so don't stress too much. I changed my major three times before settling on what I have now, and I'd probably change it again if I could still graduate in time.
And Kels, I say go for it. If you want to quit anyway, it's all good, right?

I second that. When I went to college the first time I started as a Physical Therapy major with a Theater minor. Then I changed to a double major in PT and Theater. Then I dropped PT and was just theater. (That was all in one year mind you) Then I took two years off from school LOL and NOW I'm going back to school in the fall as a Theater major with a Dance minor. Whew!

And now you have an actually FUN major, so it's all worth it!
I started out as Marketing, then changed to International Studies, then to Political Science, then Art History with a Theater minor, and then went back to Marketing and picked up a Communications double major instead. It was nice because I had classes in three of the different schools and was able to really figure out what I wanted to do, but I was allll over the place. I suffered from a serious case of spontaneity, where I'd change my major on a complete whim. I think I'm finally happy with it now. Thank god I don't have time to switch again, or I probably would just for the sake of it.

If my family hadn't been so strict when it came to college I probably would have double majored in something like health care just to have a fall back plan. But since my Mass comm major was a little more pricey I just stuck with that. It cost extra because I had music and video lab hours where we had to rent super swanky cameras for video and movie projects, and use really expensive sound boards, recording booths and mics for the audio portion.
Today around 11 my boss told me that I could take a half day and go home early.
She tried her best to make it sound like a reward for all of the extra production I've been doing...but I know the TRUTH!!! I'd only been there for 2 hours before she came into the sound studio and said that I could just record my voice for the commercial breaks for the rest of my shift...ain't life GRAND!!!
I hope you all are having a lovely day.

BB: I go to VCU and while I am a Freshman (this is my second semester right now) I came in with a full semester of credits, so, my advisor says it would be wise to declare at the end of the next semester.
JAG, thanks! The meeting went ok, she gave me the resources now I just have to use them and discover what I want to do.
Right now, I have no major, but I am declaring an Italian minor. I am contemplating a French major, but, since I don't want to be a teacher, I may or may not do that.
And Maisie, post pics of your hair! Hope it goes well! I ALWAYS go to the same salon, and they do a fabulous job, but in January, I ventured out and went to a new place. It looked good for the first day, then I realized she butchered my hair. SO, I went back to my original place, they were in awe of what the woman did and fixed it! Lol, so I hope you have better luck than I did!

Piano, I'll echo what the girls said....I changed my major a few times too.
Maisie, can't wait to see the hair!
Withoutlove, have you ever had the Sicilian Artichoke chicken breasts at Wegman's? They are so good. Anyway, I think you should call in and go to the open call!
BB, good luck with your call back!

I'd love to live up there but as you know it's crazy expensive and I have to check my finances before I do anything else. My absolute worst fear, and I'm not exaggerating, is having to move back in with my grandparents. OMG can you imagine?! I'm already stressed and snarky with them on the phone, living with them again won't be pretty. Although sometimes you've just gotta bite the bullet and take it like a woman!! LOL

Posted: 3/31/09 at 1:35pmI feel your pain Tofu and BB - it's BRUTAL to move back in with your family after you've been out on your own. I lasted at home about a month after college before I ran screaming out of there...ugh.

I lived with my mom and step dad when I was student teaching and it wasn't bad at all. But they are very fun and cool(ish).
My dad and stepmom on the other hand, while I enjoy visiting them for a few days, I wouldn't have been able to deal with.

Oh, lets not talk about living with our parents lol
They did the prepaid tuition plan for me, so, all of my tuition has been paid for for 4 years at any public VA school. Since I liked VCU and don't live too far (only like 15 minutes) I am staying at home all 4 years so I don't have to take out any loans for an apt or anything so that after I graduate, I can work for a year and save money so I can move and not pay debt off for a while.

I moved back in with my parents for a bit, and it was all right. Now I live with my sister, and it's pretty great so far.
Just, y'know, in case you wanted a more hopeful (if significantly less sympathetic) viewpoint.
Although if you want sympathy, the few months between university and Bath were spent living with my parents, and those were pretty bad?

I moved back in with my mom for about six months when I thought I was moving from Indiana to DC a little sooner than I actually got to. It really wasn't bad, which is sort of amazing. My mom and I get along pretty wonderfully now. But when I was little...oh man it was nooooooot good. We're sort of opposite most mom and daugheter combos. Around the teens we actually starting getting along better, mostly. Now it's pretty much awesome and if it's not I know not to let her push my buttons and I can usually diffuse the situation pretty easily. I'm actually going to get to see her this weekend. She and friend will be in NYC so I'm hopping on the train to meet up with them!
Tofu- I hate voicetracking. HATE IT. It's not the same as being live and it changes my energy. I'm sorry babe!

Luscious, I feel the same way. My voice has to reflect the excitement of up coming concerts and music that's about to play when I'm not even going to be there in the moment behind the mic. I sounded really drab and unenthusiastic when I was doing a stop set for "Summer Breeze" by Seals & Crofts, which never happens because it's one of my favorites to play on-air.

Posted: 3/31/09 at 3:32pmThe only time I thought I sounded good when I voicetracked is when I recorded the Sunday 12-6am show. I mean...if I'm awake and have any energy at all in my voice, I sounded good for that time. :) And I was always worried that something major would happen in the world and I'd be like oh la di da...what a nice day it is, hope you're having a good one, when the world is exploding around us, because I'm NOT actually THERE!!! Something like that happened to me last October. In NC we have this festival called "Mum Fest" and I was scheduled to do 2 hours of on-air from 10-12, voicetrack the next 3 hours, and the rest of the day until 10pm I would be at the town square near the river representing the station and blowing up balloons for kids. When I was recording my voice I was saying things like "It's a wonderful day here at Mum Fest, the sun is shining and it's beautiful outside." A couple hours later at our booth while the radio was playing I heard myself say that it was nice outside all the while it was raining cats and effing dogs the entire time!!!
