I'm really unlucky in the shoe department cos I have such weird feet (dead on half size, one foot bigger than the other and a wide fitting). I also can rarely walk in heels! So most of the time I'm in trainers, but I do love crazy sparkly ballet pumps something awful. Weather's just too damn cold for them right now though.
Being able to treat almost anything as an excuse for shopping is good
PMS is also a handy excuse for stuff, but actually having to deal with it is not so good.
Schmerg - I got the complete opposite reaction from people on the last show I did. I was in a v dance heavy chorus, so I always showed up in movement clothes, jazz shoes, hair very tightly scraped out of the way, etc. Then the week before the show I turned up having come straight from seeing a show and nobody really recognised me in a dress, cute pumps and with loose pretty hair. That said, when I'm directing I tend to dress up a lot more, so people no doubt wouldn't recognise me in my dance gear!

Heheheh...
If I watch horror movies or war movies or action movies, and if I play video games, then I get "awesome cool geek girl" points. If I were a guy, I'd just get "oh GOD are you doing BOY things again?!", like my brother-in-law does. XD
And if I then want to eat chocolate and watch chick-flicks, no one bats an eye. I feel slightly ashamed of myself, but no one else notices anything at all out of the ordinary. Smashing. :3

I'd definitely agree with that! So many guys who have liked me have done so, at least initially, cos I have such stereotypically male interests. Being the rare creature known as "female geek" is awesome.
And getting away with watching Love Actually or crying over Steel Magnolias accompanied by Ben and Jerrys during breaks from RPGs or playing with swords is also ace.

And I'm kind of obsessed with history and things like dinosaurs and Monty Python, which I guess is a plus? If I were a guy, then I guess they'd just call me pathetic.

Posted: 1/24/09 at 8:36pmGuys also like having me as a sort of token female friend who can give the necessary oestrogen to a situation, be it through cookery, stylishness, or, more likely, relationship advice and an insight into the female mind, while being accepted as one of the lads

Schmergie, I so wish I lived there still. Henry is obsessed with dinosaurs and you would be the best babysitter eva!
I might have to find you the next time I'm down there visiting my daddy.

Ha, last year, I got into a an argument with a three-year-old over whether the dino on his shirt was a triceratops or a protoceratops. (It was SO the second one!) Last time he saw me, he stuck his tongue out at me.
Has anyone here been on that Dinosaur ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom? My family went last year, and my sister and I went on that ride at least eight times. We both got scared and screamed like little kids every time the Gigantosaurus popped out. We're so lame...

Schmerg, I used to work at Disney, so I've definitely been on that ride a gazillion times. One day my friends and I went on 4 times in a row and always did something silly in the pictures. We bought the best one where we each did an over-the-top scared face. It was great! :) Besides...it's fun to be lame sometimes!
I love shoes, too, but I also have a lot of trouble with my feet....so I don't indulge in them as much as I'd love to. I gotta say I love being a girl when I have a special occassion or just a little extra time, because I honestly love the process of getting ready for a night out. A long hot shower or bubble bath, putting on some great music and doing my make up and hair and finding the right outfit. I absolutely love that and feel so great when I'm done. :)

Posted: 1/25/09 at 11:39amSometimes I wish I could be more "girly", like getting a manicure/pedicure. However, I do own some cute outfits which redeem me a bit. As for shoes, I also have a bit of a disadvantage. I'm a size 5 and 1/2, which makes shopping sometimes a bit tedious because not every department store carries that size.

I must be missing some girl gene. I don't like shopping, I don't like dressing up unless I have to. I dress like a 14 year old boy most of the time. And I wasn't a glowing, beautiful, pregnant woman. I was a hot mess!!
I do, however, love a good gift-with-purchase sale a Clinique. And I'm with you all on the flip flops!! LOVE 'EM!
so maybe there's hope for me..

I enjoy dressing up once in a while, but you can generally find me in jeans and t-shirt. Unless it's a Sunday, in which case I'll be in yoga pants because they're less effort. XD I don't own very many shoes, because I am much more of a boots person. I have a pair of Skechers maryjanes though that are very cute and RIDICULOUSLY comfortable. I suspect they shall be worn to death.
I don't enjoy the sport known as Going Shopping either. I don't mind going shopping for groceries, as long as it's not a busy time of day, but for everything else, I'd rather know what I want and go straight in and get it.
But on those occasions where I do dress up, on those occasions where I do find a cute pair of shoes that I just can't resist, on those occasions I am happy to be a girl, for I'm totally allowed to squeal over a pair of houndstooth heels if I like. :3

I take the same approach to shopping.
Honestly, I'm not one of those people who can go to the mall all the time. If I happen to be there and see something that catches my eye, I'll go for it. Same if I'm at a vintage or consignment shop. Once, when I wasn't looking for anything particular, I found a vintage dress for five dollars. Anything that is comfortable, somewhat fashionable or quirky (or has ruffles) are items that jump out to me.

You guys are making me want to count my shoes. You're also making me feel better about my "multiples." (I even have some pairs that are identical because I liked them so much and they were wearing out...or I was traveling and forgot to pack them. Yes, My name is Miss Pennywise and I am a shoe-aholic.)

Not counting sneakers or "slippers," I have 65 pairs of shoes and 11 pairs of boots. (I just gave away about 6 pairs of shoes, BTW.)
Does that make me a bad person?
(And, Stockard, I just read back...yes, you have 2 more years to go with your husband...unless he has some chromosomic deviation. My husband stopped being an idiot when he was 47.)

Eegads, I hope I don't have 4 more years!
I got rid of at least 15 pairs of shoes when I moved.
