So I got myself a dog today! He's a cute ittle wittle baby brindle French Bulldog and he's gonna need to get his little ass to a vet asap to get checked out. SO, I'm hoping someone here can suggest a good vet in my 'hood (Hells Kitchen). Also, does anyone have pet insurance for their dogs? I'm definitely going to pick that up for him but is it true not every vet accepts all kinds of it?
I don't know about vets in that area but I know where he can get "Therapy" up on 52nd! :)
Congrats on the new Puppy!
LOL. He's too young for Therapy right now, but I'm sure when he's a little older we'll go man hunting up there.
There is an animal hospital on 55th between 9th and 10th I wanna say. That's all I can think of.
Congrats on the new family member! What's his/her name?
Ok, so glad you got that! I stopped going there in 2005. It just seemed to change.

Congrats on the pup!
My dog is 14 1/2 so it's too late for me to buy pet insurance, but I wish I did when he was young--I've spent a lot of money on medicine and tests now that his health has begun to fail. You'll have to check with the individual veterinary practice as to how it works in their office, but often the pet owners have to pay up front first and will be reimbursed for a portion after submitting claims.

Well that hardly seems fair! lol
I can't believe how nervous I am about bringing this dog home on Tuesday. I feel like there's something wrong with me for feeling so terrified but I'm just excited, nervous about training again and all of that.
I just hope he doesn't turn out like that demon spawn from Russia!
I have pet insurance for my dog through the vet. All his routine vaccinations and tests are covered, which is good because those really add up.
Not in your neighborhood but Bide a Wee has a health clinic on 38th street and 1st ave which provides quality Vet Services for cheaper then many vets in the city. I take my guys there.
Congratulations--and post pictures!
I don't know a general vet in Hell's Kitchen--I know good ones in Chelsea and on the east side--but take this address down for the best emergency and specialized-medicine vet hospital in NY, on 55th and 9th:
NYC Veterinary Specialists
410 West 55th Street
New York, NY 10019
Phone: (212) 767-0099
Their veterninary opthalmologist treated Miss Holly's increasing blindness, and let us know what was possible and what wasn't. They have every speicality from oncology to behavioral medicine. I loved their waiting area and support staff too. If they do general veterinary medicine, it would be a great place in your hood. If not, know they're there if you need them.
Congrats on the new baby! Pets are love!

It's natural when it's your first dog. When I brought the Kringazoid home, I was completely overwhelmed. Of course, he was already two years old and goddamn crazy when I got him, so perhaps your little guy will be a little easier on you. :) I know you've been around Frenchies before, so you know some of their quirks and stuff already. Never in my life have I ever seen a more loyal dog, though.
Best of luck. Add me to the chorus of those who want to see pictures once you've got him home and settled im.
I don't understand people with dogs in tiny apartments in the City. But congratulations. I am jealous.
Trust me, I'll definitely be posting pics!
Thanks PJ for that info. I added them to my list of people to call first thing tomorrow morning.
And Dame, I luckily don't live in a tiny apartment. We lucked out and it's got more than enough room for a small dog like this.

French Bulldogs tend to make good apartment dogs, anyway.
I've never housebroken a dog in an apt before, though which makes me a bit nervous. I'm not sure if I should use wee wee pads or not.
DR. FISCH! (yEs, that's his real name). Clinton Vets. West 52nd between 9-8. I Love Dr. Fisch and so does everyone else, mainly the animals!. Dr. Fisch doesn't talk too much, but really knows his stuff.
wee wee pads are definitely the place to start. However also get your pup on a rigid schedule. Know that they will probably have to go after a long nap or a half hour after they eat or drink anything. When they are going on the wee-wee pad or outside have HIGH VALUE treats on hand (Cheese, ham turkey or whatever). Treat then even while they are going! Make a huge fuss over successful attempts. Training to a Wee-wee pad isn't all that hard. Later, you can take a wee-wee pad outside with you and show them that it is ok to go outside.
There will be lots of accidents so prepare yourself. Never spank a dog for peeing on the floor. They won't understand and end up finding places to pee when you are not looking.
I would also highly suggest you enroll the pup in a puppy training class. I took one with my little guy. It was great! One day a week and Andrea Arden's class. You learn how to train the pup on the basic commands. It is a fun class with about 12-15 puppies and their owners.
It really helped build the bond between new dog owner and pup and also gave the little guy plenty of socialization with other pups his own age. Plus being in a roomful of puppies is just too damned fun!
