So Lady Guen, what's it like lining up behind people who don't like you? I just read the Cabinettes are upset that the Repubs have done exactly what everybody knew they would do with their strongest anti-gay language yet. They're shocked, shocked I say!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
~ Muhammad Ali
Plum- I'm just referring to the fact that all of the news people and some relatives have said "It's so perfectly tight in there, so many police.." blah blah blah. I don't think that any security can be perfect in any case. Just commenting on all that reporting.
And Namo, there are Republican politicians who feel how we do, and I agree with almost everything else on the platform except for the gay marriage stuff. And I'm not shocked.
I ask everyone, what do they expect Log Cabin Republicans to do? Vote Democrat this time? I'm absolutely too anti-John Kerry and most of his ideas to even consider doing that.
I'm not an extreme Cabinette, but of course, you can say that I'm one. Whatever you want.
Some people don't make their sexual orientation the number one aspect of their identities. They consider themselves fiscal or conservatives, for example, before they consider themselves homosexuals. So for them, their agreement with the Republican Party's financial policies is more important than their disagreement with their policies on homosexuals. And they're probably hoping they can change the party from within, an aspiration I applaud. I'd much rather have gays, bisexuals, etc. integrated into all parts of American life, including the Republican Party, than to see a legitimate political party, even one I hate, being ruled by a policy of prejudice.
I say again, you can scream and rage all you want at a brick wall to get up and move, but unless you take a jackhammer to it, you'll only end up losing your voice. WHen you pull the lever in the voting booth, you don't get to send Bush a message that you agree with 90% of his policies and can only pursue those. You tell him to go with the Republican platform 100%. So, while I am sort of fiscally conservative on a few key things (universal health care NOT being one of them), when it comes to someone attacking me where I live, I have no choice. If the greatest candidate with the best opinions on anything EVER were running for president but still supported a constitutional amendment to make sure we forever and always consider homosexuality evil and morally reprehensible behavior, I'd reflexively pull the lever for his opponent.
Also, the AMOUNT of money Bush has wasted, the amount of money that has dried up in Iraq (and generally traceable to Halliburton) should be making REAL fiscal conservative apoplectic.
Bwaysinger, but aren't YOU telling Kerry that you agree with 100% of HIS platform? Do you think that he is right on everything? I can bet you that a large percentage of the people voting for Kerry do NOT agree with everything he says- they just want Bush out.
What I'm trying to say is that no one (well, not many people) is the PERFECT Democrat or Republican. And, unfortunately, because of my feelings on the issue of gay marriage, I won't put away all of my other beliefs. At least there is a group that is trying to change, instead of just voting for Bush and that's it. As I said, I'm too anti-Kerry to even CONSIDER voting for him.
LG, fortunately, Kerry's platform is only anti millionares, I suppose, so I have no qualms about pulling that lever. You're right. I can't cast my vote with reservations for Kerry. He gets to pursue his agenda as much as Shrub gets his. However, as stated, Kerry's agenda doesn't include the pursuit of a constitutional amendment designed to make sure I am labeled a freak. Think you can get why Bush doesn't deserve my second thought?
Look on the other RNC threads. I have said it so many times.
Maybe I should make up a form letter...hmm....
EDIT: And bwaysinger, I understand why you are voting for Kerry. But I'm a different person, and I think that you have to understand why I am not, but I don't know if gay Democrats ever will.
How much safer are you really Guen if a heckler got to Cheney? Hmmmmmmmmmm? Why, when all the new terrorists that have been recruited thanks to the "catastrophic success" in Iraq get up and running you'll see how much safer we really are.
