Wow...didn't know about the student board.

But you KNOW it's not just student-aged posters reading + discussing Harry Potter. They may deny it, but those older folk will be just as into it as we are. Well...maybe like 12 PM the day it comes out into it, rather than 12 AM into it.

Harry Potter has certainly proved its popularity with the older folk that is undeniable, however, I simply forsee a plethora of Harry Potter threads, not quite as many as there were Tony Threads, but maybe close...I forsee the few posters who aren't interested getting inproportionately angry about it...

and I think it would be nice for the Harry Potter fans to have one centralized location to find all the threads, plus they wouldn't sink too fast on that board, which is necessary because it takes at least 2 days to read it

Maybe preceding every post on the spoilers thread should be a title saying clearly which chapters you're referring to, so people can skim past?

Oh, There WILL be more than two threads, this board (including myself) will speculate about every excruciating minutia...Love me some Harry Potter, and I really don't mind %99.9 of threads on here, but it is definetly going to attract some of the crazier of the wicked fans...

ahh, if we didn't have those crazy wicked fans who would we complain about and blame all the time! lol. It's inevitable that there are going to be some rabid fans posting without thinking, I think what Tiff was saying about having people make their titles reflect what they are talking about will help people skim. Maybe having some threads distinguishing the 'serious discussors' the 'general discussors' and the 'wanting to merely proclaim the greatness of Harry Potter without actually adding anything to the conversation discussors' and then doing the title thing too?

Just bumping this because my Harry Potter excitement didn't really kick in until today. I'm trying to plow through all the books - have to finish HP3 in one day, GoF in two, OotP on Thurs/Fri, in time for the midnight release.

It just occurred to me that I don't remember OotP at all! (Aside from Sirius lying, of course.)

A friend bought me the first two for my birthday in November, and I reluctantly began to read them. I don't know what my problem was up till then, because I couldn't put them down, and immediately bought the last 3. I finished those by the end of January or so, and just began rereading everything the end of June. I'm halfway through the 5th now and just reserved the 6th. I feel like a brat b/c I got the whole series nearly at once and only have to really wait for the last one. Still, I'm in love with them. Not as crazy about the movies, but the next one looks wonderful.

I also found a detailed review of the GoF movie on MuggleNet from a Chicago test preview from a couple of days ago. Spoilers abound, natch.

My thoughts, based on the spoilers...*spoiler warning*

It sounds like most of the main elements are there, but so much is cut out! (I still feel sorry for the Dursley actors, who apparently didn't find out they weren't in the movie until they phoned up the studio, asking for their non-existent scripts!) And Sirius is barely in there! After seeing Red Dragon again a few weeks ago, I'm starting to like the thought of Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort - now if only The Big V (hee) could have a nudie scene where he's chasing Harry! I still can't believe the World Cup is so short in the movie, but at one time weren't they contemplating not even including the cup at all?? I suppose it was a huge chunk of the book and it was sort of unnecessary to include the game itself except to establish Viktor and the Veelas.

Considering the fact that this is currently the only Harry Potter thread, I don't think that the discussion will be as out of control as some people think. I'm okay with the idea of keeping this one spoiler free for those who aren't done with the book and one, clearly marked, where people can post discussions of the book. I guess it wouldn't work to ban discussion of the book for the first day or two. My HP listserv shut down for two days when OotP came out.
