Well, last week I got a letter from my school saying that we now have a dress code, which to me is a nice word for uniform. This is what we must wear:
Black or Khaki bottom-Skirts must be knee-lenght
Black or White Polos
Black or Brown Shoes
I don't have to much of a problem with this, but I don't care for it much either. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how I could spice my outifts up and still make them unique, because I am into vintage clothing. Thanks!!!
It'll just prepair you for the uniforms you'll be wearing at your after school job.
You'll enjoy the fact that you don't have to figure out what to wear everyday.
I actually don't have an after school job. I agree with the fact that you said I won't have to figure out what to wear everyday though.
well, it's probably better than wearing a uniform in Iraq, don't you think? That would be another option.....
I went to a Catholic school that had a dress code...not uniform. I would have preferred uniform. Everyone was all into getting all these expensive clothes and, though my parents could afford it, they simply didn't see the point in spending all this money on clothes just to go to school.
I would have LOVED to have had a uniform and not have to worry about picking or 'repeating' an outfit!
See, for polos, I'm getting Lacoste and Ralph Lauren, but I just hate that mu shoes have to be black. I have these amazing vintage shoes from the 60s that have a little platform and they are gold, but now I can't wear them to school. Sorry for the semi-rant. :)
Back home (Costa Rica) all schools were required uniforms. The school I originally went to was exempt for some reason, so when I changed schools in 7th grade, I was dreading the whole uniform thing.
I tell you, I loved wearing a uniform. No choices... blue pants (or skirts for the girls) and light blue shirt, black shoes, blue socks, and plain blue sweater. No logos or anything. It was great.
No worries about what to wear everyday... wearing the same pants twice in a week, having to keep up with the latest fashions. And it saved my parents money, because the uniforms were quite inexpensive.

I love uniforms. No worries about "does this look good."
Enjoy your uniform.
they sell these fun vintage looking knee length skirts at target for $14.... buy a few black ones.
i wish my middle school had uniforms, or a very strict dress code... everyone was so into looking good and being "fashionable" and i got picked on non-stop because i didn't wear the "right" clothes.
high school wasn't a problem though, because most people had grown up by then.

Well, I have to wear uniforms too...except the bottom part can be anything you want. So, I guess you can say that it's the shirt that's the uniform.

My wife and I hail the uniform policy. No issues in the morning as to wardrobe.
I wore uniforms for three years of my schooling, and I have to admit, it was easier on everyone.
People didn't lose their individuality because we were allowed cute accessories like headbands, cute socks, shoes, bracelets, etc.
I didn't have to worry about what I was wearing, it took less time to dress, I looked really cute in a jumper, and it was easier to focus on studies.
The only downside is that it is sometimes hard to identify smaller children.
I wore uniforms from 1st to 8th grade. Though I didn't like how I looked in them (or the uniforms itself... it was ugly), it made getting dressed 100 times easier. And I didn't have to spend a lot of money on clothes, and no one picked on me because I wasn't wearing the "in" clothes of the moment.
As for making your uniform more unique, wear socks that you think might make you stand out, or wear different kinds of jewelry.
Do the skirts/tops have to be solid, or can they have patterns on them?
Yes, the skirts and tops have to be solid. I just like wearing vintage clothing, so it will be a big change. Luckily, Friday is dress down day so I can kind of wear what i want within limits.
Former uniform kid here as well! Way easier.
Welcome to a world of not being bothered with what to wear. Congratulations!

Just echoing on some other thoughts, but I thought uniforms were great. No worrying about what you looked like because everyone looked as stupid or plain as you. I'd say yours is more of a strict dress code, though, since you can get different skirts and tops and things. Ours was full out--the plaid, the school cardigans, etc. And girls were required to wear a skirt (except on Fridays). The plus was that I am now very comfortable in a skirt and I always have a Halloween costume on hand!
I wore a uniform all through grade and high school. It was the perfect leveler. In high school we had a lot of kids from a local charity home. (Orphanage). The uniform code meant they wore the same things that everyone else did and there was no unfair competitions.
I also had to wear a uniform from 1st grade until 8th grade. The uniforms weren't too bad until about sixth grade when I had to wear a culotte (spelling?) that was the ugliest plaid ever made. When I went to high school we had a dress code (white polo and khakis) until our senior year where we could wear anything we wanted minus jeans and T-Shirts. I do have to say that I liked my freshman-junior dress code years better (I just wish I had better clothes in general) because senior year I got really lazy and looked like crap everyday. Well, some days I looked nice, but senior year was basically a lazy year for me.

I went to private school for four and a half years and I hated the uniforms. They were very itchy and uncomfortable and for me, they didn't make dressing any easier, I just felt weird in a jumper.
awwww poor dear....okay, to be honest I have no sympathy for all'ya because I've had to wear a uniform since the time I was 5. So yep.
But as for spicing up items...here's what we do...
--socks/tights/leggings....craziness abounds!
--buttons!...find some vintage buttons or buy some smart ass ones at hot topic
--patches
--jewlery
--hair ties
good luck, but in my humble opinion....I think it's better to just go with the uniform. IN the long run, teachers and other authority figures will find you alot nicer if you don't try to defy dress regulations.
Don't think of it as a uniform. Think of it as a costume!
nothing at all wrong with a uniform. you can still be yourself and express yourself in othere ways. clothes can cause major problems in a school. i sure wish MY school required uniforms.

I will I could wear uniforms, but I'm sure it would bum me out that I couldn't wear Broadway shirts and sweaters...
