I normally hate Josh Groban and love awards shows, but Josh Groban's medley of 26 infamously bad TV theme songs was just about he only worthwhile part of the Emmys. And people hated it? My, how the taste of this nation has been perverted.
Josh Groban; genius

I was suprised at how much people hated it. I thought it was funny enough. I'm always a fan of people who poke fun at themselves.
Reading that defamer thing, though... Is there really any question whether or not his tongue was in his cheek?
(PS - I don't think people on this board liked him very much, either)

Josh Groban has shown through interviews that he does have a sense of humor about himself. He is no Clay Aiken. Tongue definitely was in cheek.

He was also in the "I'm Effing Matt Damon" (or the Ben Affleck one, I forget which) and I thought he was pretty funny.
I just think a lot of people seemed to have missed the joke.

I'll say it too: he was marginally less painful than Howie Mandel, so I guess that counts for something.

Posted: 9/23/08 at 12:28pmIf being marginally less painful than Howie Mandel counted for anything, Marilyn Kentz and Caryl Kristensen might still have a talk show!

Posted: 9/23/08 at 12:34pmIt was completely un- funny, but clearly he thought it was...I'll give him that.

Posted: 9/23/08 at 12:35pmI've seen other reviewers saying it was the "low point" of the show- an argument that I find twice as unbelievable as "Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP."

Posted: 9/23/08 at 12:37pmThe low point was Bergeron and Shatner ripping off Heidi's dress after a PAINULLY long and unfunny set up.

It was amusing and I get that he has a sense of humor but I think the theatre audience was so used to seeing him crooning pop ballads that they didn't know how to react. It made it a bit awkward.
But--eh. I thought the best part of the Emmy's was Ricky Gervais and his bit with Carell. Hilarious!!!

My expectations were incredibly low, but I rather enjoyed Groban. However, for me the highlight of the evening was Tina Fey's quote:
"I want to thank my parents for somehow raising me to have confidence that is disproportionate with my looks and abilities. Well done -- that is what all parents should do!"

Posted: 9/23/08 at 2:01pmJosh has a great sense of humor and it showed in that skit. I love him normally but when he pulls off things like that he is just too irrisistable.

I liked it.
The worst part? The last hour, every single presenter commented that they were rushing to get to the awards, as they were running out of time...then did the entire drawn-out skit with all the reality TV hosts, presumably in-tact. The hell? If they hadn't saved all that time to make forced meta jokes about the "judges", maybe actual winners would have had the time to finish their speeches. I would have liked that bit more if it weren't done at the expense of the rest of the ceremony.
