Hehe, cheese wedges. Yay Green Bay.
lildogs, I was responding mainly to Di2's narrow-minded views of the practice of Islam, not this situation in general. I did add that it's unfortunate that this had to happen, but I do understand why it did.

all of you are ridiculous. you are twisting my words..I never said anything that you are saying.
Don't tell me about my thoughts or views and don't attack me either.
it's amazing how lildogs says he agrees with "the man" on this one meaning he agrees with questioning and removing this group from their seats and escorted to their cars and I am the one that is attacked and not him for his opinions..
what a cliquish and unwelcoming group you all are...
I never said I disagree with the practices of Islam. When did I say that.
How dare you.

Di2, I thought you said 'farewell' two days ago.
Did you not mean it?

Okay! So I wasn't even going to mention her name, but since she dragged me into this...read it again, Di2...you complain of your words being twisted and then say you say what I "mean?" This is why people think you're crazy--
"I'm actually tempted to side with The Man on this one. "
That's what I wrote, o ye of selective memory. I was leaving you alone, as you requested, but if you want to bring it, I'm thrilled to oblige. What I said is hardly a ringing endorsement. What I was questioning was these fellows' timing and choice of venue. Surely they knew GWB was at the game, creating a heightened sense of both security and paranoia, and it was foolhardy at best of them to try to combine Islam with a football game. I would say the same to someone who was taking communion at a KISS concert. There's obviously a time and they just chose the wrong place.

It's prayer- no wafers involved. And the "they should blend in more" argument bugs me because, like I said, you shouldn't have to be a WASP to be American. To use a more mild example, would you say that a gay couple shouldn't hold hands on the street because people might mistreat them? No one should be forced to "blend in" because Whitey McAnglo gets uncomfortable when he sees them. Live with it. Should we tell Hasidim to stop dressing like it's 19th-century Poland? Because Giants Stadium isn't that far from Teaneck, either, and I wouldn't want any beer-chugging, all-"American" football fan to get freaked out.
If the area wasn't cordoned off (which it has been since), those guys were perfectly within their rights to pray there. And the fan who got alarmed can be forgiven. But don't go around saying that all of this could have been prevented if the Muslims didn't act Muslim.

That was a joke, Plum. I wish I didn't have to say that, but I guess I do. And of course, they were well within their rights. Yes, it's racially motivated, because if they had been a white Protestant family, this would have never happened.
But these guys HAVE to know they are being watched because of the color of their skin and I'm just saying they should have been smarter about it is all. People are mean, ignorant animals on the whole and I (for one) have come to expect these knee-jerk reactions security officers. I'm not saying they have to choose between faith and freedom, but it's a FOOTBALL game, for pete's sake. I'd say the same thing to people who started praying during Act Three of My Fair Lady too...They chose to attend a football game, knowing they'd have to pray in the area, and they should have planned ahead, that's all I'm saying. I would have asked someone in charge where the best place to go would be, especially in a heightened alert. That's the smart choice.

You're still focusing on the "misdeeds" of the guys praying. If you're saying they shouldn't have been surprised by what happened, fine. But lacking an overabundance of caution wasn't a crime the last time I checked. I don't get surprised when people assume a foreign accent is a sign of stupidity, but I don't recommend American-style diction lessons, either.
That said- you have a clique? Man, I should be more careful before arguing with you, scary thing. :P

A clique? HUH?
An accent?
I didn't say they were "misdeeds" did I? No. And that IS what I'm saying--they shouldn't have been surprised, if they even were. I wouldn't be.

BLUEMOON...SO HIGH AND MIGHTY AREN'T YOU???
WELL, YOU ARE 100% WRONG..
I was saying "farewell" in a post to the original poster of that particular thread.
It wasn't mine. He/she said he was leaving due to the mean and nasty people on this board and I was saying "farewell" to him or her.
and I concur...you people are terribly mean.
If I lash back because you have called me names first (or questioned/attacked my character) then how are you any better than me? You started it.
I will stand up for myself..
you all have twisted my words around and attacked me for my thoughts while others have expressed the same sentiment as I have and have gotten nothing but flowers and roses in response..
amazing

called you names? attacked your character? Um, I asked a quesrion....which was, since you seem to have forgotten, and I still have received no answer.....How can you, amongst ALL people on the planet, be the ONLY one to see EVERY person , and what they are all doing, in a sports stadium?
and the "you started it?" comment? My God talk about juvenile.....you just keep digging yourself in deeper, don't you.......lol

Mighty? Why, yes I am. Thank you for noticing.
High? Not so much - very sober at this point in the day.
I must have misunderstood your intent on that thread since it was a 'revived thread' from over a year ago. That poster said good bye a long time ago. Your original message, which you deleted, was so vitriolic I thought you were leaving.

Di2, since you have arrived here, all you have done is attack others and whine about how we mistreat you.
And Bluemoon, of ALL people, one of the most fair, genuine, SANE people in the entire world, never mind on BWW - if you feel that she is being unfair with you, then you really do need to take stock of your own twisted reactions.

I WISH I was high, then I wouldn't be so anxious about receiving those flowers and roses...redundant as that phrase may be. I've disagreed with Elphie (the hunting thing), Rath (remember Britney eating the Big Mac?), and almost everyone on here--I don't have a clique, and have only met THREE posters in real life. And I'd hardly call that a clique. Not that any of this is anyone's business. I posted a thread I found puzzling, and I still have mixed feelings about it.
I didn't even mention your name, Di, till you mentioned mine. You asked me to leave you alone, and I did. Please return the favor.

Posted: 11/4/05 at 11:01amThe clique thing was taken from the mouth of this thread's most popular poster. The accent thing was an example- I know lots of people who have them, and everyone from store clerks to tech support employees to government workers treats them like they're idiots who don't know English. I find this unsurprising, but I wouldn't urge my friends to get rid of their Russian/Korean/whatever accents just so they can sound like newscasters.

This is the thing, Di2 - adults disagree. We all have our own feelings and opinions and some feel very strongly about them.
I have probably disagreed at one time or another with everyone on this thread. I never took any of it personally, I didn't cry about being attacked and mistreated, and I certainly did not attack the posters who disagreed with me. And look - we're all still friends.
You should try it - your life would be a lot less stressful, a lot more fulfilling, and quite a bit more educational.

Elphaba..AGAIN..I NEVER SAID I could see EVERYONE in a stadium...I was only speaking about MY personal experience so why do you keep saying that I said that??
I NEVER SAID THAT!
I have clarified myself many times so why do you keep going back to that.
Leave it alone...stop putting words in my mouth.
#46re: I'm Not Sure What I Think About This...
Posted: 11/4/05 at 11:21amThat's kinda what I thought you meant, Plum, and I agree...I try to put myself in the shoes of the accented folks cause I run into a mulitude of them when i temp as a receptionist in NYC. I'm as patient as I can be and never nasty, cause one of these days, when i'm fortunate enough to be able to afford to travel to a foreign country, I'll be treated as a dumb American, no doubt. Although I'm better with some than others. I was stopped a few weeks ago in the west village (a maze that boggles my mind too) for directions to what sound like Arasho Street--after I asked him to write it down, I figured out he meant HORATIO street, but I felt stupid for not catching that fact that he was saying it in Spanish which I studied for three years! So I guess it works both ways...

Posted: 11/4/05 at 12:14pmThank goodness I have joined your "ignore" list because your kind of debate is immature and unfair.

How can I possibly forbid anyone to speak?
And as for immature and unfair:
"and elphaba go f*ck yourself you pretensious b*tch" certainly qualifies...
You could have at least spelled it correctly. Or am I blocking your spellcheck as well?
"you people are terribly mean"
Just thought I'd preserve those bon mots before you erase those as well.
And I repeat, I didn't mention your name until you mentioned mine. I don't need to form a clique of people to attack you. You're doing just fine on your own. As I've said before, your posts speak for themselves.
I don't recall anyone using profanity to get his point across. You might want to consult Robert's Rules of Order to sharpen YOUR debating "skills."
Enjoy the rest of your run, Miss C.
