the extras are fun, but especially hearing madonna sing in a voice lesson with joan leder. I have never heard her sing like that!! she has an amazing voice she has never really used.
How much did you get it for? I've seen it at Best Buy for 17.99 and WalMart for 29.99. I'm waiting to see the lowest price before I buy it. Although I am DYING for it. How's the CD?
I got it at virgin where it was 24.99.
the cd is ok--still wish it was a dvd of the concert.
How much of the concert is actually featured? How long is the documentary? What exactly does it follow? Just backstage? At the hotels? Family life?
Apparently the concert is going to be released. Because of a contract with the DVD producers they had to push it back but, they should be releasing a full DVD soon.

I hear the LIVE cd is amazing. especially the helicopters during American Life...must sound great on a home surround sound movie system.
The documentary is great too.
I find it much more real and human,..than truth or dare.
I don;t think she plays up for the camera as much and really exposes alot of her insecurities.
cool stuff
Saw this via the internet and can't believe I haven't bought it yet. I love the concert footage and really hope a full concert DVD does in fact see the light of day (unlike Blonde Ambition which has been buried for 15 yrs).
How cute are Lola and Rocco? And smart and sophisticated, to boot.
I do think that Guy Ritchie comes off as a complete loser.
so rather than just wait and release a documentatry/concert movie they are going to make people buy both? that seems greedy....

ACtually, it's two seperate things.
This time, they released a LIVE cd with the 2 hr dvd documentary attached, which shows alot more than just concert clips.... The documentary is better than 1990's 'truth or dare'.
and then it comes with a LIVE cd to boot!
the tour dvd should be its own seperate release anyway.
I'm gonna have to side with folky on this. Pairing the concert DVD with the documentary would be smarter business. This is why I am praying she releases Blond Ambition WITH Truth Or Dare.
I can see the logic of any artist releasing documentaries and concert DVDs separately, but if I was a pop star, I would do the above. And just charge more.

I think what people are forgetting is that IGTTYAS is the main focus.
The documentary features a select number of 12 sngs...all that are then included on the bonus CD of this film.
Not every song on the tour is on the film...
But they managed to add this bonus CD (including the rockin' version of I Love NY)
because the songs were highly featured on the documentary.
and that's it!
Months ago...fans were happy to get the documentary for personal use.
this bonus cd is just an extra treat to hear the featured songs from the flm in your car, home or ipod...without the visuals..
I'm sure the re-invention dvd will be stored for the vaults for later...
but we all have to remember that the bonus cd..is focused on the songs used for the film in consecutive order.
It is not a concert CD by any means......it is a counterpart for the movie.
Unfortunately I didn't like the documentary. I hated the way the concert footage was edited and thought the documentary was a bore. Truth or Dare is one of my favorites but this one didn't do it for me. Especially the ending when she goes to Israel. However, I'm probably going to end up buying it for the cd.
I was watching it last night.
I really like the documentary, but i HATE the way the concert footage is edited. It's inconsistent and distracting. As soon as I begin to enjoy what M is doing up there, it cuts to either a video screen, or to some silly graphic. I just want to watch the performance!
Also, I can only reiterate that Guy Ritchie is a complete ASS. (Or so this film makes him out to be.) He thinks he's completely hilarious drinking a beer while driving down the street. And that's one of many things...
jerby- you are absolutely correct about Madonna's voice. There's an operatic instrument there that she has never used. I loved seeing her work with Joan Leder and only wanted more.
Anybody who says "Madonna can't sing" will now be immediately dismissed.
I was in total shock.
Exactly! I've always thought she had an excellent pop voice. Who knew? She needs to tap into that!!
I thought one of the "extras" they were going to include on the DVD was the original cut of the AMERICAN LIFE video. Am I missing it???
Stupid question maybe, but - is this the same IGTTYAS documentary that MTV aired in October? I Tivod that, but would love the extras you all are talking about, so may have to go buy it.
Yes, otis. Same documentary minus the bleeped words and with extras.
Cool. Thanks. Yet more money I'll be handing over to the Madonna camp this summer.
That's right--the DVD or the CD was going to have the original AL video. Maybe it's an easter egg. Or maybe they changed their minds.
Loved the DVD and the CD. Definitely showed a different side to Madonna, dare I say a mature Madonna, and a genuine mother side, as opposed to the "mommy" relationship to her Blond Ambition "family".
I actually love that Guy is just a guy. He drinks, he acts silly, he doesn't give a **** about who she is; he's a good ying to her yang. Lola is just adorable and so deep, and Rocco needs to have his own reality show, he is just the funniest, most precocious little thing ever! Watching him and Lola talk is a riot!
Best DVD extra, aside from the voice lesson - a real suprise - is more of her Musical Director, who is again, just so damn funny.
Stuart Price is fun. I love the mini-documentary of he and the bandmate as lovers in Paris. And I love when Madonna complains about her hair "...my bun came out" and he says "It wouldn't be the first time."
It's also nice to see Madonna eating a piece of sticky toffee pudding with whipped cream. With a body like that, it's a relief that some indulgences are allowed.
Adore Lola and Rocco.
Still think Guy Ritchie is a pompous ass and a terrible director.
IGTTYAS is the best companion to Truth or Dare in my opinion. It shows Madonna after a 360 degree turn from who she was back in the late eighties. She is very grounded and spiritual and expresses remore over how she previously lived her life. She mentions her struggles with depression and disconnection. I was also impacted by what she gives up in terms of her spiritual life. She gets little to no "alone time" out in the world. Her having to drive by the Wailing Wall really made me sad.
Aside from the great insight into her life, there are some great concert segments and gosh is she ever a role model for fitness and cardiovascular endurance. Damn that woman is fit.
She really is a shining example of what can happen when you tap into your inner source and stay focused.
To be fair, I don't think she's done a complete turn around. She will admit that she has a huge ego, and working on that is still a work in progress.
She also didn't really "struggle" with depression. There's no mention of clinical depression. Just more of an up and down feeling- up when things were going her way, down when they weren't (which happens to all of us). So her goal is to remain "connected to the light" (in her words) regardless of how well her personal and professional life are going. Lofty and ambitious to be sure, but worthwhile also.
I do completely agree with BettyBoy's final comment about M being an example of what one can achieve thru focus.
She's a fascinating creature who also happens to have one of the greatest catalogs in pop music history.
I agree with something Pink once said--that Madonna is the strongest person in the world. To have maintained a hugely success career at her level of the game (and as a woman in a man's world) this long without one bout with drugs, alcohol, exhaustion, depression, meltdown, freakout etc. is freaking impressive.
Her lows have been some other artist's highs.
