I'm having headshot trouble! Advice?#1

So i dont have the money to get a professional headshot taken, but i've got a really nice camera so i think i'm ok for a little while at least. But the thing is i have naturally wavy hair that i liked to keep straightened some of the time. So then this question arises: Should i use a head shot with straight or wavy hair? I guess i do wear my hair straight more than wavy but for the most part its pretty equal. Does it matter how much you look like your head shot? Like if i have a head shot with wavy hair and go to an audition with straight hair will it matter? Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't really matter. I'd say try both wavy and straight hair in your headshots, then choose the picture you like best.

"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

Often headshots should reflect your "type." Your type is the kind of characters you usually play. A lot of times straight hair is associated with "the rich girl" or "the mean girl" or "brat. Wavy hair is usually associated with "the girl next door" or "the geek." Also alot of times actors have two headshots they usually use. A commercial shot (smiling, happy) and a theatrical shot (more serious face). Generally straight vs. wavy hair isn't going to change your face so much that the Casting director won't recognize you when you walk through the door. Try both and if you can't decide print up the headshots you can't decide between, and then you can use whatever headshot best fits the role you're auditioning for. Hope this helps.

Hmm...depends on what kinda picture pose your doing and your clothes. If your wearing a very pretty doll dress or somin formal...wear your hair wavvy, if your in a nice tanktop that is casual...wear it straight.

Your headshot needs to look like you. If you send in a headshot ahead of time, the directors are expecting you to look like the picture they got. Since you have the options on hair, you might as well use that to your advantage and submit a different headshot for the different types you audition for. Just make sure when you walk into that audition that your hair is styled the same way as in headshot you gave them.
