Overall guys are naturally stronger than women (physically), right?
I have no idea how this conversation got started with my suitemates friend (who is a girl) who is drinking in the lounge to our room, but we did. She continually tries to argue with me that Im' wrong, except she is being so stubborn.
I'm not chauvinistic, but it's just a fact that you would need to be stupid to ignore, guys are genetically stronger than women, PERIOD. End of story. I'm not saying girls can't be just as strong, if not stronger, than SOME guys, but the strongest guy is stronger than the strongest girl. Girls don't have the testerone and aren't built to grow bulk like men(unless they take steriods) and naturally or even unnaturally can't be stronger than the strongest man, because of the way we are built.
She even seemed to get offended, and I'm not saying we are better than women or looking down on them, it's just nature. She was like "Make sure you let your wife know this before you marry her." And sure I would, I am not ashamed to say this or feel like I am being offensive, I didn't even start the convo! lol.
I dunno, I just don't understand it...
So who agrees with me?
Who agrees with her?
I wanna see what people here think, I'm hoping to get some support here, but who knows.

No matter how you try to put it, that statement will always be offensive to women.
Even I was more than slightly offended and I'm not even offended by the shirt Im wearing in my avatar.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
Well yes it is a fact, but w/ me it only comes up when I'm debating stuff especially men vs. female firefighters, in a paper I had to write about the causes of a job being male-dominated and I picked firefighting, and I cited facts that men are stronger.
Well, define "stronger." True, men in general can build better upper body strength than women. But women in general are better at balance, endurance and tolerating pain.
Are you saying I'm physically weaker than Elijah Wood? Ouch. Not true.

My wife could kick my ass at a moment's notice. That is my answer.
It's not offensive to me. It's a fact.
Why do you think we expect them to carry our heavy bags and boxes, etc.? How is it offensive to say that men are built differently than women?
By saying you think men are "stronger" you are putting men up as superior to women, which is an offensive statement. As Calvin said men and women are different and the strongest man would have a greater upper body but the strongest woman better endurance.
The arguement as you present it infers you think women are "less able" and that is going to be a huge problem for most people you try to talk to.
It doesn't make them superior. It makes them stronger. We are intellectually superior.
Well it started because she was talking about how we have all our weight in our upper bodies and chest areas and nmaking some point about that (I walked in there). Then my suitemates other friend (male) said girls can't run as fast as men because they have bigger hips. She disagreed.
I was like, I don't know if it's because of the hips, but how can you disagree? The record speed times are faster with guys. All sports where strength is a key aspect (which is a good majority) guys will reign over women in. That is why they are put in different categories by gender!
If I'm being offensive then it must be offensive that girls can't compete against guys. However, then guys would have the unfair advantage, because they are naturally stronger.
I'm not trying to be offensive or chauvinistic, in everything else... equal playing field, but when it coems to this then guys are better BECAUSE OF GENETICS! It's just nature.
I dunno... I can understand a bit of her being offended although I really don't want to be, but then she went on and on trying to put me down and I was getting mad. I'm not the moron, she is the ignorant one ignoring the truth.
Guys are stronger, you can't argue with it and it's nothing bad. Who the hell cares anyway... whether you are a guy or a girl, it doesn't matter!
But I just wanted to see all ya guys standpoints on this, so thanks for the responses.
As a general statement, abslutely. Men are physically stronger than women. Now, I am stronger than most men I know, I think. I do know a lot of nelly queens though. I waited tables through college, so my upper arm strength is pretty great. That statement doesn't offend me at all. Neither does the statement that girls are softer than guys. I mean, thank GOD.
In brute strength we are superior.
Balance, grace, even MAYBE endurance (but just look at lance armstrong) girls have the edge and are superior.
Girls can be stronger than guys
Guys can be more graceful then girls
edit* but that's just sometimes, but overall it isn't a true statement.
The way are body is built is why(guys have broad chests and shoulders, more muscle legs, etc... while girls are slim, flexible, light on their feet, etc). We are built differently and will have different abilites.
Sure it's not ALWAYS true, but overall it is and when comparing the strongest guys to strongest girls, guys will be better.
oh and, just bcause elijah wood can't kick your ass doesnt mean men overall are stronger. The strongest guy in the world can kick ANYONES ass (strength wise)... no women could touch him in brute strength, no matter what she did because of the way we are built.
Tha'ts just a fact.
I don't see how it's offensive.
I don't get offended with the fact that girls have better balance and grace than guys or that they tolerate pain better. I just know it's true and that's the end of it.
Why isn't it the same here?!?!

Word.

ever heard of Billie Jean King?
kiddo I know some women who could whip your A**.
sweeping generalizations are ALWAYS offensive.......this ranks right up there with things like "black people are better athletes", "gay people are better dressers"....all it does is foster stereotypes.

^to my above pictures...
Are you seriously going to try to argue you with me that she could beat up the guy above (marius pudzianowski-one of the world strong men)??
No, she can't... and guys of that strength will not be beaten by any women-EVER (unless you women get genetically mutated in the near future).
It's just a fact.
I don't care if she could kick my ass, that isn't the point.
It's that men OVERALL are stronger than women
I don't really think it is a negative generalization.
On average, men are stronger than women.
Just as on average, men are taller than women.
It just has to be carefully worded.
Lord knows I certainly don't feel inferior to men!
And along the same lines, as previously mentioned by others and myself, girls are superior in some ways as well.
Balance, grace, pain tolerance.
You don't hear me or any guys for that matter saying that is offensive-because it is the truth. As is that womken are also more flexible too. Who the hell cares...
Now if I started saying men were overall superior and intelligence wise also (whcih we aren't) THEN it would be highly offensive and chauvinistic.
Millie, thank you, that's what I am saying. And saying men are taller is very similar.
It's no different. I just don't get where being taller and stronger is the equalivalent to being better?? It isn't.
The evidence you have sighted is biased by the fact that women have been relagated to a certain role by our society. The problem is in the way you are making your arguement. You are using STRONGER as a synonym for BETTER and that is problem.
For centuries people have used "scientific evidence" to prove that white people are smarter than other races and that men can learn more than women as well, those things are untrue.
That guy can probably hardly move so I would contend that someone in superb physical shape like Ms. King could certainly hold her own.
Your use of absolutes is the main problem with your statement, as well as this intense desire to shout out at any who disagree with you, it hardly seems like you want rational discussion.
Generally men are taller with more muscle mass, they can lift more weight and can be faster. Those things may not be true in the future as we continue to evolve, but they are true now.
The problem is your comments seem to take the facts and turn them into an assault opon the physical abilities of women.
Men are, generally, stronger than women. It has nothing to do with who is more capable, it has to do with physical strength. I can't imagine anyone arguing that.
Men are definitely stronger than women physically, but on a similarly different note, every male I know is a BIG BABY when he gets sick, but women "take it like a man."

Yes, physically men are generally stronger than women but in some ways women are stronger than men.
on the firefighter note: yes women should be firefighters, but they should have to pass the SAME tests as men, not one specifically designed for them because they are considered to be weaker. if you're not capable of doing a job, then your not qualified, there should be no special allowances when it comes to public safety
I'm curious how I'm saying men are better? (if stronger is a synonym, or how I am using it is)
Because I don't even agree with that, so you are getting my opinion wrong.
At strength related sports, men are better... and my use of very absolute, factual language is just because you can't argue with it, because as of right now, it is an absolute truth. Men are stronger than women physically and that's it.
As I said above even, yes women can evolve to be stronger, but right now it isn't true.
I am also sorry for not seeming to want a rational discussion, but I wanted to see how many shared my opinions and who didn't. I also am not trying to really rationally discuss since I personally think it's ignorance if you try to argue this claim. You can't. (as brendonstryker said above)
I just don't see why me shouting this as a truth is offensive either which should have been what I focused more on anyway.
If you tell me guys have less pain tolerance, less balance and grace, and flexibility... well I would agree. Women are superior, better, whatever word you weanna use at those things. And this has to do with your physical body, nothing else. Just like a shorter, lighter person is generally much weaker than someone heavier and taller (less mass) and a thin person general has more endurance.
These things are just how our bodies work, muscle = strength (for the msot part) and men have more muscle = more strength, which means anything relating to physical strength men will do better in. Women are more slim and have their weight ina different part of their body which means they will have better balance and grace, and so on.
It's not trying to be offensive on either end, it is just fact.
I also don't care if that girl is in better shape than any women on this entire planet. She could do anything she wanted to a man of that size and I highly doubt it would harm him. She'd bounce right off him and one punch to her face could probably crush her jaw.
She could not "hold her own"... I highly doubt she could harm him, unless she had a weapon of some sort.
