So I tried to catch up on "The Real World" today only to be so appalled by the general loathesomenss of the cast that after the screaming started I had to walk around the block to lower my blood pressure. There was so much to love: The girl addressing the camera saying "I realized I was sleeping with someone I just met...I don't want to feel like a slut" to the self-confessed "Playboy" who upon "hooking up" with his roomate (the second in 24 hours) vows not to "hook up" with anyone else in the next 24 hours....and then claims to be not bound by anything he said when he was drunk.
But then a new show comes on that makes Real World look like Masterpiece Theatre. I don't know what it's called and I don't know if it was supposed to be reality show or just atrociously dull, but it follows a skinny white guy and a hugely fat guy as they aimlessly do stuff...skateboard....swim...eat crackers....take their hideous dog to the vet. What is the point of this show? Are these guys celebs or something? It was easily the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I've seen more riveting public access phone in shows.
So I am officially too old to watch MTV now.

The second show was Rob and Big. Rob is a professional skateboarder and Big is his bodyguard. I'm not sure what the point of it is since they do nothing.
the only show i ever watch on MTV anymore is Next, and that's to feel better about myself as a person since I'll never be as dumb as anyone on that show.
I saw that episode of Real World, and well haven't watched further and I'm only in my 20's. I haven't liked or watched a full series on that channel in years. I think Daria was the last full season I watched. I do have a slight guilty pleasure for Laguna Beach, but season 3 has annoyed me so far. I usually catch the episodes when they play an all day marathon and I'm home with nothing to do.
I'll often have MTV running in the background on weekends. Yesterday there was something on called Twentyfourseven that is truly horrifying - a supposed "reality" show about young men in Hollywood - they are all repugnant.
<---15 and too old for MTV. Or maybe too young. I don't know if it's my maturity or lack of that causes me to dislike most pop culture.
rath, it's supposed to be MTV's "reality" version of Entourage.
How bizarre.
When do we get the reality version of The Sopranos?
stupid double post
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, i don't know, but i really hope they try to do that on the next season of Real World, that would make it worth watching.
<------Too old for MTV
<------Not too old for VH1.
<---little old lady geek.
I spend most of my time watching reruns of the L&O franchaise on Bravo/USA/TNT, and reruns of Star Trek TNG and DS9 on Spike.
watching L&O on Bravo as we speak, lol
I'm flipping back and forth between that and Sunday Night Football
Giants won today, so I got my fill of Football for the day!

When Daria was canceled, any last shred of respect I had for MTV went out the window.

Why is it even called MTV anymore? They rarely show videos anymore. All it is now is a channel full of poorly-concieved reality shows.
Even VH-1, their sister station, has gone downhill.
But, future generation won't know how it used to be and what it was built around, and that's what they're betting on. Like The Disney Channel.
Sad...
VH-1 Classics is the best channel of those type
I became too old for MTV the day Beavis and Butthead aired.

As I was flipping around today TRYING to find something to watch. I thought "Why isn't there a Law & ORder Channel?" It's on a lot, just round them up and run them 24/7. There would ALWAYS be one on-- I'd be so happy!
I must admit to watching Super Sweet Sixteen, Made, and True Life. Though none of them have anything to do with music aside from the odd b-list rapper mummy and daddy get for their brat's birthday party.
Joe, I swear there always IS one on somewhere, between NBC, TBS, USA, and Bravo.
