The original "Rugrats" was great. They ruined it when they kept adding new babies and pointless fart jokes.
"Are You Afraid of the Dark?", cheesy though it was, scared me witless when I was a kid. And I thought "Ren and Stimpy" was way too gross.
But I was always watching all the game shows and competitions. They usually involved pies. And slime, of course. :) Nowadays they just seem to involve hosts with irritating voices and lots and lots of screaming. Kiddie TRL.

And speaking of game shows, don't forget Whuh-whuh-what would you whuh-whuh-what would you Whuh-whuh What Would You Do
Hehe. (That was part of the theme song for those of you who don't remember )
What was that guy's name who hosted it?
The original Nicktoons were the best, although I did enjoy "Rocko's Modern Life" and "AAHH! Real Monsters." Rocko is my favorite Nicktoon of all time. It was so delightfully weird. And I used to like "Doug"...before Disney got their slimy hands on it and wrecked it. Ah, I long for the days when cartoons didn't have to be educational...
"Are you Afraid of the Dark?" has permanently scarred me. I can still remember exact episodes too, and I really, REALLY don't like to think back on them.
There was one with these twins, and the evil one pushing the good one down a well. Scary.
But then there was the one where the aliens a had a Zoo, and the humans were the exhibit. SCARY.
I blame that show for my entire childhood.
Hey hey! Don't forget "Hey Dude!"

I thought that lady was booooooooooring.
Nick News was awesome. I always wanted to be on that show!
Oh the days when SNICK was the place to be...
I always liked Nick News. Does anyone remember the one they did about AIDS, with Magic Johnson and all those HIV-positive kids? *So* sad.
And speaking of "Are You Afraid of the Dark," does anyone remember the pinball one, where the kid thought he was on a magic quest but it turned out he was trapped in a pinball machine forever?? And the "I'm cold" kid? Scared the hell out of me.

that lady was ridiculously boring. i couldn't stand nick news. my parents thought it was good so that as a child i would get some sort of current events information going through my head, but instead i would just switch channels to Tune-DISNEY and such!
I loved watching Clarissa Explains it All!
I also remember exact episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark?> they terrified me as a younger person, but i loved watching the show anyways.
I remember the pinball one!
How about the "Are You Afraid" episode where this guy who looks like Yanni moves into the apartment above this one teenage girl and he invites her up to his apartment (which was very psychadelic, by the way). Up there he teaches her telepathy and all these mind tricks, like how to move objects with her mind and such. And then he sets her in this chair and then chair starts to move toward the ceiling. There's a hole in the ceiling and all these creepy people are groping the air. At that point I turned off the TV. Anyone know what happened to the girl?

I adored "Clarissa Explains it All." Anyone remember the name of that competition where kids would do various sort of "extreme sport" things (often with harnesses) and end up climbing the Big Purple Mountain of Doom? I loved that show.
I wondered if the programs got worse or if I got older! Now I know it was the programming.
"Anyone remember the name of that competition where kids would do various sort of "extreme sport" things (often with harnesses) and end up climbing the Big Purple Mountain of Doom? I loved that show."
That was GUTS, and the mountain was the Aggro Crag! "Do-do-do you have it? GUTS! Do-do-do-do you have it? GUTS!"
"Are You Afraid of the Dark" made me scared of jesters (there was this one episode where a jester-looking person oozed blue stuff.... I loved that show!
And "Clarissa Explains it All" was hysterical!! Sometimes you can catch it on Nick (I saw Salute Your Shorts a few months ago!! I was dying!!)
Plum- the mountain/harness game show was Guts.
"Sometimes you can catch it on Nick (I saw Salute Your Shorts a few months ago!! I was dying!!)"
*GASP* When was it on?? And how did I not know about this?!?!
These shows are all so kick-arse.
But I have to admit, I am in love with SpongeBob.

I have to admit, I love the Fairly Oddparents!
The first episode of Are-You-Afraid-Of-The-Dark that I saw was the one with the librarian who made all the loud kids shut-up by locking them in a room forever and stealing their voices. She put those in a box that she carried around. I now treat librarians with the utmost respect.
Yeah, I love them, too.
I used to LIVE for saturday nights.. SNICK
ROUNDHOUSE , CLARISSA , REN & STIMPY and then ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK..
then eventually , Alex Mack took RoundHouse's Place...
I used to get so depressed at 10pm because I knew it was time for bed and sunday was coming which meant homework day :o(
My favorite AYAOTD was the one with the mom and daughter who move into the apartment complex and the old lady lives next door becomes friends with the daughter but, it turns out shes dead.
"Are You Afraid of the Dark?", cheesy though it was, scared me witless when I was a kid."
This was *my* show back then! I never missed. I would make my dad leave and turn off all the lights in the living room and watch.
I do remember thinking it was dumb that they always had happy, resolved endings.
And, of course, I used to read Goosebumps like crazy.
I dont know how my parents didnt see my X Files obsession coming from MILES away.
im ashamed to admit i still watch Legends of the hidden temple and guts on cable.. as well as Clarissa on Noggin.. I watch all the noggin shows i am so ashamed :o(
