"Sure I've been in a few plays and musicals, but more importantly, I've been acting every single day of my life. You see, I've been acting as someone I'm not. Most of you see me every day. You see me acting the part of 'straight' Jacob, when I am in fact LGBT. Unlike millions of other LGBT teens who have had to act every day to avoid verbal harassment and physical violence, I'm not going to do it anymore. It's time to end the hate in our society and accept the people for who they are regardless of their sex, race, orientation, or whatever else may be holding back love and friendship. So take me leave me or move me out of the way. Because I am what I am, and that's how I'm going to act from now on."
That's a high school kid. It'll make you cry.
He's no Jodie Foster, but....
So take me leave me or move me out of the way. Because I am what I am
This sentence in a total mindf**k for musical lovers. My brain can't decide whether to start singing Rent or La Cage.
Nice passion in the speech though.
Great speech. Though I wish instead of "or move me out of the way" he had said, "or get out of my way"
Well that would thrown Gypsy into the mix and I probably would have a stroke.
I'm waiting for an ugly kid to come out.
I like his choice of words exactly as he said them. I'm very glad he didn't say "...or gang way, world, get off of my runway."
Sounds like it wasn't a surprise to anyone there...
Betty, that made me bust out laughing.
Ugly kids come out every day. It's just not news.
Pretty is news.
They don't get standing ovations, that's for sure.
Taz and if he had added, "Let me finish the hat?" Would you be like the famous scene from Scanners?

At first I was bothered by him saying LGBT instead of "I'm gay"...but then again he may be bi or transgender, who knows? But if you use the term "straight"...it shouldn't be an issue to just say "I'm gay".

Ugly kids don't get the press. Pretty sells.
I did think a bit about the LGBT- I think tho that kids this age have grown up with the lingo and that's just how they talk. It took me back to my first involvement in the "gay community" way back in the 80's where during meetings you'd have to remember to say "lesbian and gay" and "gay and lesbian" in equal proportion or there would be a discussion.

Is he L? I know the kids of today are very fluid in their definitions.

I went through an L phase in college. I still have those bookcases I built.

I hope you keep your copy of "Our Bodies, Our Selves" on it.
I'm still wondering when GLBT became LGBT.

I'm fairly certain what he is saying is "I'm an LGBT teen." I think it's nice he made a point be that inclusive.

And after he saysd "LGBT" doesn't he then say "lesbian, gay, bi, transgender"? It's hard to hear but I thought that's what he says after the acronym.
