re: i want to rip out every hair on my head, and then cry some more.

But aren't you glad your parents didn't?

Anyway, Rodney- yes, you can be a teenager and have $1,000. I made more than that this past summer, though admittedly I was doing skilled work. But I know quite well that despite what the legal system would say, I'm no adult. Why do think I dread the real world as much as I do?

Speaking of grounded, when I was 12 a friend of mine called his mother a bitch and threw a plate of food at her.

His father grounded him for FIVE years. We literally didn't this this kid except at school from sixth grade until just before senior year.

Why do I not believe the whole 'I got in trouble for doing something I didn't know I was not suppose to be doing' argument?

Oh yeah...cause I tried to pull that sh*t...and it was ALWAYS a lie.

Quick life lesson...and it hurts...but it's true in a lot of cases:

Your parents are always right.

Yes my kids are now realizing that one

When I see posts like this it makes me glad I don't have children. You have a ton of homework to do so mom won't let you play on the computer. That's unfair?

Yeah, eventually we all learn that parents are always right in these situations. Especially when we realize that all those years spent unfairly having to do homework have been of more benefit to us than watching tv, posting on message boards and lsitening to cds

re: i want to rip out every hair on my head, and then cry some more.

homework was always an issue with me and my parents.

My father would always scream at me "you haven't cracked a book this whole term!"

What he failed to realize was that the teachers would teach for the first 2/3rds of the class then give an assignment. I ususally finished the assignment then.

Just because I didn't "crack a book" didn't mean I wasn't doing the work.

My dad also tried the "take the computer away" tactic. Keep in mind this was an Atari 800 with 48k of RAM about ten years before Al Gore invented the Internet. All that accomplished was me turning in hand-written assignments that looked like shat. Thankfully, my teachers recognized my computer skills and advised him to 'give the computer' back. I now make my living as a programmer and I often remind him that the skills I learned back then apply today.

So? He's grounded for using the computer too much and probably not doing his homework. People get fired for the same reasons.

I don't get the wrist hurting thing either.

I was grounded for 3 months and got the whooping of my life for changing an F to a B on my report card. Although my father later admitted it was pretty intelligent of me to do so.

You know what's better than looking over your shoulder?

Put a rear-view mirror on your monitor.

If they give you a hard time tell them it's society's fault because when you were a kid people were always behind you snickering at you and now you're traumatized and unless they want to pay for counseling, they'd better let you keep your mirror.

Hey DGrant! I use birth control as well! Something we have in common. They should teach that in public schools.

So let me get this straight. You think you didn't get an A because you actually didn't do the studying your mother asked of you.

And you think she's overreacting?

God...to be a kid again and to be able to rationalize every bad choice I made!

re: i want to rip out every hair on my head, and then cry some more.

Haha you gotta love it. You know I have learned that people have much more respect for you when just admit that you screwed up through no ones fault but your own. I had a prof last year who asked me why I had missed a test and why I hadn't come to him about making it up. (In this class 4 tests decided our grade for the semster.) I just told him it was my fault. I had stayed up late hanging out with friends and had overslept because of it. I knew the classroom policy and wasn't going to try to lie or push my way into making up a test I shouldn't have the opportunity to make up. The prof was so taken aback by my brutal honesty that he let me make up the test anyway. Things might not work out like that all the time but you sure feel a whole lot better about yourself when you just admit your when you screw up instead of trying to shift the blame and rationalize.

re: i want to rip out every hair on my head, and then cry some more.

nobizlikeshobiz,

When I read your post and think like a teenager, I see your point.

When I read your post and think like a 30-year-old I see your mom's.

1 person out of 10,000 teen-agers who plan of majoring in musical theater and later maknig a living in musical theater never get there. It sucks, but true. Good grades in high school equals going to college and getting an education to have a real job. Or you can get ****ty grades like I did then have to join the damned Navy and waste a half a dozen years of your life.

So my advice is...

1) Learn the damned Spanish. At least you'll be able to place a special order at Mickey-D's without them screwing it up. I took French in high school.. friggin useless. I actually used it for the first time in my life the other day when I had to reach a co-worker in Toronto and the hotel operator answered the phone in French.

2) Listen to your Mom. She's not as dumb or misunderstanding as you think

3) Seriously ask yourself if your REALLY think you can make a living in theater. IF you can, then good for you.
