It is possible to read it in 8 or 9 hours---some people are just quick readers (It only took me a couple of hours to read the first book). They are an easy read, unlike some of the history books I've read.
I'm staying up all night, and if I have to take it to the dentist on Saturday am to finish it, I will. There is a complete media blackout at my house---no computer, radio, tv until I've finished!
Same here Magdalene. I told my husband that he can get online and if he wants to watch TV to do it in the other room so I don't accidentally hear anything. We have a 4 hour car trip on Sat and I will be reading/sleeping during it because I want to know what happens before I get it spoiled.
Is it wrong that I almost decided not to go to a wedding (the reason for the 4 hour car trip) because of the book release?
i forget. in which book does harry strip naked and start riding horses?
between 6&7 i think
"Is it wrong that I almost decided not to go to a wedding (the reason for the 4 hour car trip) because of the book release?"
No---I'd bring the book!
That's in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! Gawsh, Robbo.
I could definitely read the books in about 10 hours. I read HBP in 18 hours, but had actually slept for about 9 hours in between. I will read the book before I go online at all. I'm that scared of spoilers.
Oh, and I want to avoid a scene like this (Spoilers!!)

Oh and thank you for posting that bit about HPANA, Kelzama. I was pretty sure what I got was not fake.
Hey, SeanMartin, just because YOU don't read very fast... :P They are easy reads anyway.
I just finished Goblet of Fire in about seven hours of reading (2 yesterday afternoon, 2 last night, three today). I'm gonna sleep late Friday and then stay up all night reading HP7. Then I'll probably start reading it again...
I'm starting Order of Phoenix now. I'm also one of those crazy people who's reading them all before the last one comes out. I already reread book six recently but I think I'll read it again just for the heck of it. I want to have every little meaningless detail in my head for the last book. Plus six is the best one so far.
KelRel, now you have me completely paranoid that someone is going to do that...
From Mugglenet about the leak:
The LA Times is reporting that the US Harry Potter publisher obtained a subpoena to learn the identity of a user who allegedly posted copies of Deathly Hallows on a California website.
Scholastic said in a court filing Monday that "materials hosted on Photobucket.com's system" contain materials that infringe copyrights owned by Scholastic and J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books. Photobucket.com, a News Corp. unit, is a website for sharing photos and videos on social networks such as MySpace.
The subpoena was sent to Gaia Interactive Inc. in San Jose seeking the identity of a user on gaiaonline.com, a social network, according to the filing in San Francisco federal court.
Gaia complied with the subpoena, removed the material and temporarily banned the user from the site, said Gaia spokesman Bill Danon.

I'm definitely a one-day reader for new Harry Potter books. I read OotP in about twelve hours and HBP in about eight. I figure the last should take me about nine to ten?

I'm gettign it @ 12 on Friday, and I have to work on Sunday, so I'm REALLY hoping to be able to finish in a day...I should be able to. My friend's mom is a librarian and she got it for him today. I don't know how, but I want it! He's threatening to ruin the end for me.
I am so sick of people spoiling the books for everyone. I was reading Perez Hilton's page, well the article he had about DH being leaked and someone spoiled a major death. Hopefully it isn't true, but...gahh.
I am so, so afraid of this being spoiled for me. I'm putting on some noise-cancelling headphones and camping out in the Sahara Desert while reading this.
Just do what I do--avoid Perez Hilton and the like. Don't go to the sites that will have the spoilers and you won't be spoiled!
I plan on doing the same thing. I won't be taking my headphones off until I'm safely in the car going home to read it.
>> Hey, SeanMartin, just because YOU don't read very fast...
Hey, RJ, just because YOU dont remember half of what you've read when you're finished...
Gee assuming much, Sean Martin? I have read every Harry Potter book very quickly and remember almost every detail. Do you have some hidden hatred for speed readers?
I cannot stress enough to not go online or turn on the television (or answer phone calls) until you finish that Harry Potter book. Last time, I was half-way through "Half Blood Prince." I went onto LiveJournal to check my FRIENDS page. That's it.
Someone posted an entry, with a line saying who died and what page.
And I was shattered.
So my best advice is get your book, rush home (because you don't know what psychos will be outside of those bookstores, shouting who dies after they skim to the end), and read. Read. READ.
Yep. Yep.
The full book is online... I just finished reading it about an hour ago. It's amazing. It has the perfect ending :)I felt a little guilty at first reading it, but I'm going to be there midnight to buy my copy so it's all good. I just couldn't wait an longer. It is sad though that people have insisted posting all over the internet who dies etc. I'm devastated now that it's ll over
Anyone want to PM me who dies?

I downloaded images of what appears to be the real book in its entirety and have spent the last few hours skimming quite a bit of it. I won't post anything other than to say that I've been very disappointed overall in the treatment of certain characters and... well, I don't want to ruin anything for anyone who hasn't read it.
Oh, and personally, I saw a version of the epilogue circulating that seemed obviously fake, but the version I've been reading (digital photos of a book placed on an ugly carpet) seems extremely true to J.K. Rowling's writing style. The digital camera's Exif data seems accurate as well.
I remember them very well, thank you very much! I don't know that I could recite them to you word for word, but I don't think I'd want to be able to! Would ruin the fun of the reading it again.
>> Gee assuming much, Sean Martin?
Pookie, I direct you to your own earlier post. Then get back to me, huh?
And I repeat: "reading" an 800-page book in 8 hours is *not* reading. It's skimming, and frankly it's an insult to the author to race through something that she spent three years writing for your enjoyment. Deal with it.
Deal with it.
Wow SM, who peed in your cheerios this morning? Your opinion is not the only one that matters. You don't agree that we can read that fast and enjoy it and thats fine. Don't get all worked up about it.
PRESS RELEASE:
Scholastic has recently learned that some individuals have received copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows through the mail , beginning on Tuesday, July 17th, as a result of a breach of the on-sale agreement by the distributor, Levy Home Entertainment, and shipments made by DeepDiscount.com, a customer of that distributor. We are taking immediate legal action against DeepDiscount.com and Levy Home Entertainment. The number of copies shipped is around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies to go on sale at 12:01 am on July 21st.
We are also making a direct appeal to the Harry Potter fans who bought their books from DeepDiscount.com and may receive copies early requesting that they keep the packages hidden until midnight on July 21st.
Scholastic is especially grateful to the other retailers and distributors for their careful attention to keeping the books secure until the release time and for planning thousands of spectacular midnight parties where fans will celebrate together. And we ask everyone, especially the media, to preserve the fun and excitement for fans everywhere.
The fans themselves have made it abundantly clear that they are looking forward to going to the midnight parties, receiving their very own copy of the book and finally getting to read the book they have so anxiously awaited.
