A friend texted me just now saying so far (30 minutes into the film) that it's "gonna win the freakin' Oscar. It's this year's CRASH!!" I responded with "don't text during the movie you jerk! let's see if you feel the same way after it's over."
Has anyone seen it? I know he's only seen the first 30 minutes, but is it as good as he claims?

Yeah, I'm going tomorrow night too - can't wait.
"This year's Crash?" Does that mean he thinks it's overrated and will win anyway?

Posted: 7/16/10 at 1:15amI can't wait to see this movie. It looks absolutely insane. I think the best review i read about it was that it was "too smart" for most Americans.

Movie is over. Here's what he said: "totally the best movie I have ever seen!!! Epic. Masterpiece. i wanna see it again right nowwwww"
I typically don't take much weight with this friend's opinions as he tends to like everything...Guess I'll find out soon...

Just got back now.
This. movie. is. mind-blowing.
Nolan has crafted a world that is so specific, and is so precise that anything any of the characters say or do seems perfectly justified. Just as in THE DARK KNIGHT, Nolan's movie truly comes alive in it's 'Third Act', with a sequence you won't soon forget. Some of the visuals are just stunning as well.
Marion Cotillard, Leo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt all deliver standout performances, some of which I hope are remembered come award season.
I'm still processing a lot of what I just saw, but go see it now, you won't regret it.

My boss, who runs a movie theatre and who has seen a million movies, says its one of the best movies he's seen in the last ten years.
I can't wait to see it.

The NY Times was not all that kind to it, pretty much saying it has been grossly overhyped and that it's not nearly the mindf**k everyone is making it out to be. While I have not yet seen the movie, they do make a pretty good point saying that while Nolan has created some excellent scenes and concepts, a movie this ambitious with a subject as limitless as dreams, the movie ultimately never fulfills it's promise because there are too many limitations. It makes sense.

Regardless, I'm pissing myself in anticipation of seeing this. My roommate just told me it was great and another friend of mine is saying it's easily one of the best films she's ever seen.

I've a feeling it's going to be the new Matrix.
you mean, the first movie will be great, followed by two overblown, self-important sequels?

It has many, many rapturous reviews, as it should, and several notable detractors. It's a complex, twisty storytelling that will enthrall many and drive others batty, so I'm not surprised to see reviews that run the gamut. I can safely assert that this is the first lock for one of the ten Best Picture slots at the Oscars. It's a stunning piece of storytelling and colossal achievement for Christopher Nolan.

Posted: 7/16/10 at 2:16pmSaw it this morning and LOVED it! Not for everyone. You have to pay close attention but the movie is not slow and moves very fast. Great cast and I thought while watching it this is the kind of movie Hitchcock or Kubrick would make. It is SO REFRESHING to see a movie like this come out of Hollywood. No sequel or remake or movie based on a comic book or TV Show or video game. Not sure how this will due at the box office but I thought it was better than The Matrix. Very different movies but I know I will have to see this again before the summer ends.

Don't buy into critics. It's a fantastic, edge-of-your-seat, mindblowing thriller.
I went alone today, no distractions. That's what you need to fully enjoy it. Nolan sets rules and laws for his world. There are so many of them. Maybe over 50. But if you catch them all, watching the pieces come together is one of the most exciting things ever.
The last half hour was gripping. Joseph Gordon-Levitt walks away with the film, as well as Cotilliard. DiCaprio, once again, gives an over-rated, one-note performance.

Posted: 7/16/10 at 6:32pmIs it really that original? It seems like a mix of The Matrix and Where Dreams May Come and I have seen all of the trailers and featurettes.

Posted: 7/16/10 at 10:23pmJust got back and it was all types of brilliant. Is it original? I would say yes. Not the "go into people's dreams" portion, but the way it was executed and the ideas behind it, is what is original. I was so enthralled through the whole thing, I didn't realize my bladder was about to burst until the credits started to roll. I thought everyone in the movie did an excellent job, all though I have to give extra props to Joseph Gordon-Levitt. We are not used to seeing him in this type of roll and he was amazing. So far, this is my favorite film of the year and I can't wait to go back and watch it again to see what I missed the first go-round!
