Perhaps the police and teachers in that school district should have a seminar of what a real bomb looks like. It was quite obvious from the pictures shown that it was not a bomb. I mean, even I could tell!

They also should be forced to take apart electronics to see what is actually inside of them.
Honestly, if the clock was a bomb, I don't think the kid would show it to his teacher without a threat of some sort. When you want to cause chaos, you either threaten someone or silently do something with it.

If they really thought this was a bomb was the bomb squad called in? Why was the school not evacuated? I question what this school would do if there was indeed a real threat.

There were NO EXPLOSIVES attached to the clock. It was just a circuit board with wires. Yes, there could have been an electric match on it but all that does is make a spark to set off the EXPLOSIVES that WERE NOT THERE!

Sabralady, I think this whole event has darker underpinnings. Siting the points AEA posted, I don't for a minute think the teacher or the police thought this was a bomb. I think they were just out to knock that smart assed brown skinned Muslim kid down a couple pegs. They don't need those kind mingling and showing up their lilly white red necked progeny. Kind of backfired on them, it did! The White House invite, Space Camp Scholarship and MIT a knockin'?

The bomb squad wasn't called because no one was under the impression that it was a real bomb, just that it LOOKED like a bomb. The police described it as a "hoax bomb." This was the law they referenced when he was arrested:
(a) A person commits an offense if the person knowingly manufactures, sells, purchases, transports, or possesses a hoax bomb with intent to use the hoax bomb to:
(1) make another believe that the hoax bomb is an explosive or incendiary device; or
(2) cause alarm or reaction of any type by an official of a public safety agency or volunteer agency organized to deal with emergencies.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.

An idiotic and embarrassing scandal- but the interview in which the rep from MIT tell him that he's the sort of student they want is wonderful. The look of shock and pride on his mother's face is heartwarming.

I love Bill. Always have, always will. And while I don't agree 100% with everything said in that segment (see, you can STILL like someone and not agree with them all the time), the one point he made that I completely agree with is that when something happens, people automatically jump to a side without knowing all of the facts. It happens all the time, not just with this. And I'm not speaking of this incident in particular, but it happens all the time. Take for example the Sienna Miller discussion. Without knowing all the facts, it's deemed sexist and an example of how Hollywood treats women. But we don't know all the facts. We don't know who the other actor was or if his agent negotiated for a higher paycheck or anything that went on behind the scenes. But we'll cry "OUTRAGE!" just the same.

People also immediately called her a liar, untalented, and did everything they could to wipe of the notion of sexism in general in entertainment, so it's not like "both sides" haven't been represented.
