I'm going in for important surgery in a week and a half...Do you all remember the trauma of my skiing accident in Slovakia? Well the metal is now rubbing against the tendon in my knee, making the surgery somewhat urgent. I'm worried, but hopeful all will go well...

I started a three week liquid fast to bring my BMI down before surgery. Ok, it's chocolate. A diet that lets you have 4 chocolate shakes a day isn't that bad.

DollyPop...I had to change hospitals and go to one in New Haven. It is called the Hospital of St. Raphael. What do you know about St. Raphael. I think Raphael is a Hebrew name. Refuah means to heal and el means G-d. Any insights?

St. Raphael is an Archangel. He appears in the Old Testament and is only mentioned by name once. He is often thought to be a matchmaker, so you may have very good luck with that cute surgeon!

According to what I just read, St. Raphael appears in Tobit, which I know is not really part of the Old Testament. It's in the Apocrypha. Very interesting story.

I have attended serveral appointments in the past 10 days at the hospital. Everything is moving so rapidly that I can barely catch my breath. I have my final pre-op meeting on December 6th and soon after that I will receive a date for surgery a little later that month. It is scary because I am not going to be in the hospital in my home city. But perhaps it is scarier living the way I am now. There is some light at the end of the tunnel and it looks healthy!. After a few weeks post -op, I plan to come into NYC for the first time in a few years and perhaps see a show.

Yenta - be peaceful on this journey. So many things are going to change, but remember that the core of you - that IS you - is what will remain constant. Everything else is just the exterior details.

And maybe it's a good thing that you're going 'out of town' - then you can return in triumph, heralded for the courageous spirit you have shown. I, too, think it's terrific that this is finally happening for you. I remember the day you posted that you had been turned down for the surgery. It seems like that was a very long time ago, too.
