Thank you all so much for you kind wishes. Right now,I have to do a protein fast which involve eating nothing but meat 3x a day for 5 days. I can just hear the funny comments now. After that that, they test me for ketones. At thispoint, I would do anything that would enable to have the surgery and have my life saved. I will be having the surgery in New Haven in about 3 weeks. Anyone who wishes to contact me can PM me. And Liam........your words to me were the sweetest.

I have now completed all the steps that I need to do for the surgery. It has been really tough especially going back and forth to New Haven all the time. Now, I just have to sit back and wait for that call from the surgeon's office that I have been scheduled. Again. I want to thank EVERYONE for the prayers and good wishes. That is what is getting me through this.

I've only just found this thread, it's fascinating reading Yenta. Please keep the updates coming when you can.

Jeffrey Foskett of the Brian Wilson Band had this same surgery two years ago, and he's only half the man he used to be, but happier than ever.

HELP!! I have decided not to tell my family the date of surgery. My brother is having massive marriage problems and my mother is still recuperating from her surgery. She calls me every day complaining about everything she can't do and how she will be massively crippled for the rest of her life if she doesnt die soon. In the next breath she descibes in great detail everything she has eaten. { I have been on a liquid diet fore nearly 2 months} She says she has massive aches and pains and then goes shopping at WALMART. My family is emotionally not there. I am just starting to feel very alone. Thanks for listening to me kvetch.

Thanks Daydreamer.........This is very risky surgery for a very obese person. I am sure I will do fine because of my strong will and determination. Yet, I feel so out of it and just hanging there in limbo.

I may want you to talk to a friend of mine. He is SO DEAR to me, and I think he's just given up on life. He is now over 500 pounds and doesn't leave his apartment. I saw at Christmas and.... well, I can't even go into it here.. Let's just say that he can't bathe and smells like Strawberry Shortcakes rotting corpse (He splashed on some stawberry sented something).


I need help to get him to get him to get some help.

Yenta - I know we haven't chatted much in the past but I wanted to add in my good thoughts for you.

Sometimes the hardest part of going through surgery is how emotionally isolating it can be. Even if you have a lot of people around it can be painfully lonely if there is noone around who can relate.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend finding a support group of people in your situation. ESPECIALLY if your family wont be there for you. No offense to those here but there is only so much empathizing we can do if we haven't been through it ourselves.

You're a courageous woman for deciding to take your life back in your hands. I wish you all the best.

Thanks for all your kind words. Popular: I do have the support of a friend who had the surgery two years ago. There is a support group at my local hospital that I go to. However, I had to change from my hospital to one that is 45 miles away. That just adds to the difficulty because I am a strangeer there. Everyone here on this website is one of biggest sources of support. Unfortunately, I have experienced loss of friendships with people who struggle with their own obesity. They can't understand why I am risking my life with dangerous surgery. The answer is easy for me; I AM A SURVIVOR.

Yenta - go to yahoo! groups and search "weight loss surgery" or some other related terms. I went through a pretty traumatic jaw surgery and the online support group I found there was my sanity. Perhaps I got lucky in finding a nice group of people at that time but if you don't find it there, just keep searching. You'd be really surprised the things you learn that the doctors simply overlook or forget to tell you. Some of it, for me anyway, was very helpful!
