Someone please tell me it was indeed THAT good. I mean I literally left the theatre, walked back home, and looked around at the world calling it was beautiful - even the litter on the highway!!
Inspiring. Engaging. Wonderful. It's everything a good movie should be, and then some!
I must preface in saying that I'm not the biggest Kerri Russell nor Andy Griffiths fan - HOWEVER, they were marvelous! ESPECIALLY Russell who won me over from the start. And the supporting performances from Adrienne Shelly, Cheryl Hines, Eddie Jemison, Jeremy Sisto, and Nathan Fillion were spot on! Every single character in this film was essential - and they were portrayed brilliantly.
The writing is beyond brilliant. It's poetry. And the score just elevates that poetry even more! Between the performances, screenplay, and score, the direction gets lost. But that is what is supposed to happen! The direction, especially for this film, shouldn't stand out above the film's elements. Therefore, I deem this one of the rare perfect movies.
I'll be adding this to my DVD collection as soon as it becomes available.
I was so enraptured with everything going on. I was attached to all characters, even Earl - the character we all hate. I laughed, cried, sighed, and grunted. Just like my experience watching LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, my reactions to the film were so genuine.
It's so rare to find a film like this nowadays. Enjoy it for all it's worth!
Gah! I want to see this movie so bad! It looks fantastic. Unfortunately, living in the middle of nowhere, we don't get a lot of movies unless they are extremely main stream (a.k.a Pirates 3). Glad you enjoyed it, I personally cannot wait to see it!

Hey, it's not a children's movie, so more power to you.

Agreed. 'Tis a shame its writer and director is no longer with us.
Thanks, Namo! By the way, have you finished watching the MY LITTLE PONY DVD I let you borrow? It seems like AGES ago since I let you borrow it...

I actually haven't had interest in children's movies since I was a child, so you must have me confused with one of your other little friends.
I want to this this so much. I've never been much of a Keri Russell fan, either, but what I've seen of her in this film has been great.
I loved this movie too. It had a happy ending without being too Hollywood or cliche. It was really sweet and honest and left you feeling a little uplifted. At least that's the reaction I had to it. There's lots of sh*t out in theaters these days, so this movie is very refreshing.

By the way, what are the lyrics to the pie song?
It looks fantastic and I loved Keri in "Felicity" and in THE UPSIDE OF ANGER.

The other cool thing about this movie is that the abusive husband wasn't a caricature. You legitimately understood his pain.
Gonna bake a pie with a heart in the middle...or something like that.
Actually, that sounds like the I Stole The Recipe From Mario Batali Pie.
No, you're not over-reacting---it was that special!
And it will be releases on DVD Sept. 11, 2007
I love that movie! I think it actually has Oscar potential and is the dark-horse comedy of 2007. Just like Little Miss Sunshine.
I loved it.
It has NO Oscar potential whatsoever. Russell may very well get a Golden Globe nod, but an Oscar nod is an extreme longshot. The only other chance it has at anything is Best Original Screenplay, but it may only get as far as the Writer's Guild.
Just because it's a "little movie" like LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE doesn't mean it could still emerge as a best picture frontrunner...it's not that good, guys.
I loved this movie so so much.
And then my friend emailed this to me

It's rather devastating. Actress (the friend who gets married), director, AND writer. (sigh)
EDIT: sorry cruel_sandwich, I didn't read your post.
Loved, loved, loved this movie! I don't even care about Oscars. It was just one of the most genuine films I've seen.

Good as it was, I don't think it will be able to compete against NORBIT in next year's Oscar race.

My favorite scene in the entire film was when Keri Russell is singing the pie song in the kitchen. So so so so so much romantic and sexual fiery passion in that scene.
I loved it too! I've been baking nonstop since I saw it. (very dangerous!)

Although I have to say it was weird not hearing Cheryl Hines screaming "LARRY!" every other word.
Calm down, child.
It is a nice film not a great film. Keri was surprising good and sounds like a young Jennifer Jason Leigh. But at some point the film becomes a Lifetime Movie of the Week of women in peril. All that is missing is Jaclyn Smith or Meredith Baxter.
RIP to the director/actress.
