If Roe v Wade were to be overturned.... — Page 2

It would revert to state law, and the individual statutes enacted by the various states.

If the people for whom RVW is really an important issue VOTED as if it were an important issue, RVW wouldn't be in danger of being overturned.

If a law is passed that places all the burden on women and not men, then this might as well be Afghanistan.
Actually, it seems most anti-abortionists would be in favor of going after the one who performs the abortion, not the woman herself. That's what I was getting at.
As others have pointed out, those who fervidly wish to restrict (or eradicate) abortion rights don't really seem to think their position through.

Well, part of the problem is that pro-lifers can't even agree amongst themselves:

I would think that there HAS to be some sort of legal punishment for a woman who was convicted of having an illegal abortion, otherwise it sends a message that women are to be infantilised and have no real say over their own choices. I guess overturning Roe would pretty much say that anyway, though.

i think all the Anti-Choice people should be forced to watch the movie Vera Drake. that'll learn 'em!

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

I loathe the hypocrites who claim to be "pro-life" are also in favor of the death penalty and war. Unfortunately, they make up the majority of the "pro-life" camp.

i loathe the word "pro-life". people who are pro-choice are pro-life too. we're just pro the mother's life. they should call it what it is: pro-choice or anti-choice.
"pro life" is deceptive.

BFB, have you see 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days?
I love that last video. These people fetishize the fetus to such a degree that when confronted with the concept of the actual woman involved they have no idea what to say.
Say, god forbid (heh!), abortion is made illegal. What will these people do with their time? What will they use their bibles to go after next?

This is the one issue that I would never want to debate. I am pro-choice for a variety of reasons, BUT, if someone truly believes that human life begins at the moment of conception then being passionate about it is completely understandable. It is not like being anti-gay, which really makes no sense since at the heart of it it's no one else's business what you do in your bedroom and affects them not at all. The pro-life movement has a valid point of view.

I disagree. In both cases, it's about people believing that the great genie in the sky has called upon them to inflict their beliefs on others. In both cases, they believe that because they've chosen to live their lives adhering to the bible that they have to right to tell other people what they can do with their bodies.

I am not saying they are right, but I can understand their passion. They believe someone is being hurt. They believe embryos and fetuses are people. I would be very outspoken if I thought that many actual people were being killed. As I said, I am pro-choice, up to a point. I just would never lump a pro-life individual in with the religious right that we think of when we say "religious right". I think there is more to it than that.

Women should NEVER be able to have an abortion. It's against what the bible says.

I personally would never have an abortion and have tried to talk a couple of my girlfriends out of them.
But I have ALSO gone to the clinics with them when they needed a hand to hold. I offered love, support and NO SHAME.
That is what being pro-choice is about.
I wish the anti-choice people showed as much "passion" for taking care of the unwanted, homeless, hungry children who are with us.
These are the same people who vote against expanding education funding for schools in poor neighborhoods, deny healthcare for ALL children.. and a support a myriad of anti-children legislation.
