Posted: 4/24/06 at 6:30pmWho would you be? Pick anyone you want from any time period. I think I would go way back in time and be William Shakespeare. I think the man was certainly way ahead of his time. As an aspiring writer, I would perhaps enjoy seeing life through his eyes. Of course it would also be interesting to see what life was like when Dolly Pop was a small child.

Posted: 4/24/06 at 6:32pmI have this thing for all things 18th and early 19th century. If I could be someone, I'd like to be Jane Austen. I'd like the chance to know what she was thinking and who Darcy is based on.

I would love to go back to Shakespeare's time as well. It's an interesting period of time anyway, the Renaissance.
I'd also love to go back to the 80s.

Posted: 4/24/06 at 9:10pmI'd like to go back to the early 20th century. I always felt like that would be a place where I would fit in. I don't know why.

Probably Ireland 1916. I'm absolutley obsessed with that time period, and I wouldn't ever be able to answer why. I'm nowhere near Irish, but for some reason I've always loved that whole rebellion scene circa 1900s.
Or I'd like to be someone working in the court at Henry VIII's castle. Just because that's also a recent obsession of mine and I would like to be out of the way so my family doesn't like sell me into being a mistress with the King and such...blech. But I would still like to be there. Out of danger. Where I can just...watch.
OH OH OH Italian Renaissance! I'm not too impressed with Northern Europe Renaissance but I would definately love living in Florence or Milan or Venice at that time.

Posted: 4/24/06 at 9:38pmI feel like I've answered this question before... but, I think if I could go back in history it'd either be to the 1930s, at the start of the big band era, or maybe the early 19th century. It was the time of the gothic novel, traveling philosophers like Emerson and Thoreau... fun times.

Posted: 4/24/06 at 9:49pmAhh, the Italian Renaissance is so interesting. I would have loved to live in Venice then too! It wasn't smelly and overridden with tourists back then either.

well, it probably wasn't touristy... smelly? sanitation has come a long way in the last half millenium.
But, yeah that'd be an amazing time to go back to. Italy then was teeming w/ new ideas, and talented denizen.

Posted: 4/25/06 at 3:00amDancinqueen123, I hear you. I sometimes wished I'd been born in 1900, because I'd like to have lived through most, if not all, of the 20th Century. Think of all the change. There will never another century like the last one. In the early 1900s, cars were new, planes were still considered a fantasy, women wore tight corsets and ankle-length skirts, etc. Then compare that to the 1990s. Makes you wonder what the 2090s will be like.

Posted: 4/25/06 at 5:37amMine would either be the late 18th century, during Jane Austen's time (although on second thoughts, who would want to be a woman then? They couldn't do anything), or during the 1920s and 30s, for the fashion and the music

Who I'd want to be: Someone kick-butt, like Judy Garland, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick the Great, Otto von Bismarck, Ethel Merman, George Washington, or Charlie Chaplin. Man, those were awesome people. Or anyone who knew how to use political power well, really.
Who I'd end up being: Some head Nazi official, not because I agree with their viewpoints, but simply because I'm just some dorky World War II history buff who gets asked if they are a Nazi every single second of the day. Even though my father was Jewish.
And while I'm on the subject of World War II, FDR sucks.

Posted: 4/25/06 at 5:19pmDuroc- It smells in Venice because people throw their trash in the canals. I don't know for a fact how bad it smells, but my friend went there over Winter Break and that's what he told me.
