The choreographer for a show I'm doing right now will be one of the All-State chaperones this year. She said she ran the c.d. for the dance auditions and never wants to hear You Can't Stop the Beat again...but she too didn't think the dance was bad. I don't know how many were called back at the downstate auditions...but she mentioned they're wanting at least 13 of you. (Though don't hold me to this.)
It's so nice they have upstate and downstate auditions this year for you guys. I'm trying to figure out how I can come to UofI to see it!

So you had to sing from the show too? Did you sing the Hairspray song solo or with a group? What song did females have to know?

Yes, you sing songs from the show at the callback.
What Hairspray song are you talking about?
As for female songs..they can virtually ask you to sing any girl part from the show. It all depends on what they call you back as.
I'll try and remember what songs the girls needed to know....
If they call you back as Tracy: "Good Morning Baltimore" "Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now," "Without Love"
For Penny: "Mama I'm A Big Girl Now," "Without Love"
If you're called back for one of the Dynamites (the black soul singas!): The Part from "Welcome to the 60's"
Little Inez: Solo part in "Run and Tell That"
Amber Von Tussle: Part in "Mama I'm A Big Girl Now"
Mrs. Von Tussle: "Baltimore Crabs"
Motormouth Maybelle: "Big Blonde and Beautiful"
That's all I can think of right now..if I missed any other girl parts just ask me.
P.S. For callbacks you first learn the song really quick and sing it as a group and then you sing it individually.

For those of you auditioning tomorrow (if there are any...) there were a few things at Nazareth different from the Effingham auditions. You'll be in a group of about fifteen for the singing, and you'll sing in front of each other and the judges in the auditorium, so sing out! The same group goes to dance. You'll have time to change into dance clothes between singing and dance, I'd recommend not wearing heels because the floor is slippery. I didn't get a callback (
) so I don't know how the callback procedure is but I do know they posted the list almost immediately after the second of the first two groups was done.

O prisoner don't worry---they stressed that even if you do not get a callback does not mean you won't make the show!
How many people were at the Nazareth auditions? And why wouldn't they have any auditions tomorrow?

I meant, if anyone from BWW was auditioning tomorrow, not if they were holding auditions at all :)
I couldn't tell you for sure, but it seemed like there were at least 4-6 groups of 15 or so today, but that was before I left around 1:00. There might have been two more groups in the afternoon. I know there were nearly 400 people signed up in total for all three days in all three areas.

Oh, well. I got the "rejection email" tonight. Made it to callbacks, but they only need 35. I wasn't one of them. Does anyone have the cast list?

I'm in the pit orchestra (I auditioned for both). Which is not the cast by any stretch, to be sure, but it's still all-state, so I'm happy. The cast list should be posted on the theatrefest website within the week.
