At what point did this show start to really go down the tubes?
I think it was either when they had Julia Roberts or Ben Affleck on.
I hear next season they will have Dakota Fanning and dedicate two shows to the Olson Twins.
Seriously though, is this the 21st Century's version of "The Love Boat"?
Once I saw Jennifer Lopez on...I couldn't watch again. It was tainted.

But her portrayal of that one-hit salsa singer was the zenith of her career. I actually shed a tear.
How can we forget her compelling performance in Maid in Manhattan as..uh...some maid in manhattan? Powerful.
Well they have interviewed most of the leading professionals out there already its been on the air since 1994. The only episdoe I really want to see is the Sondhiem one which aired in '94.
Julia Roberts isn't so bad......I mean she does play the same type of role a lot, but her career is one that reads like someone you want on the show......awards(oscar), inconographic role(Pretty Woman), and many movies to her credit!!!!!!
I agree that is was TOO EARLY for Jennifer Lopez to be on there......and I don't like Ben Affleck at all, so ofcourse you know how I feel about that......Speaking of Ben I want to ask him
"Why haven't you written yourself another award-winning script/role??????"
I LOVED Meryl Streep on the show, but she NEEDED MORE TIME!!!!!!
I'm fond of Geena Davis, so ofcourse I LOVED hers!!!!!!
My worst moment was hearing Barbara Streisand's favorite sound "The sound of having an orgasm!!!!!!" Yuck!!!!!!
Dear lord, Barbara said that?! Glad I missed out on that one..
I did enjoy the Robin Williams special. Though, if he can get 2 hours...why can't Meryl Streep?
What they need to do is put Broadway actors on the show!!!!!! Especially the older ones......this will give them something to do since they are obviously short on possible guest!!!!!! I mean I would love to people hear Barbara Cook, Francis Sternhagen and Chita Rivera(amoung others!!!!!!) tell their stories. Most of the students there are probably more geared to stage rather than screen anyways!!!!!!
Speaking of Broadway actors on there wasn't Bernadette Peters on there??????

MTVMANN, that is exactly my point. There is a huge amount of talent out there that still hasn't been interviewed. Save all the modern day freaks for when they have stories to tell.
I've actually seen this show several times. I was there when Johnny Depp, Drew Barrymore, Kevin Bacon, and Hugh Grant were interviewed.

I don't dismiss their talent, but you have to realize that people like Chita Rivera and Barbara Cook have had Broadway shows written with them in mind. They are legends.
Ha, when Barbra said "the sound of an orgasm" I almsot died. It was a hysterical moment, I thought.
"But her portrayal of that one-hit salsa singer was the zenith of her career. I actually shed a tear.
Selena was anything but a one hit wonder. And she wasn't a salsa singer.
Get your friggin' facts straight.
"But her portrayal of that one-hit salsa singer was the zenith of her career. I actually shed a tear."
SELENA WAS NOT A ONE-HIT SALSA SINGER!
Oh, Marquise already got that. Sorry, I was so shocked by this comment, I rushed to reply before reading the rest of the thread.
Going off-subject to Selena, I will agree she was very good in Selena......I love that movie and I bought the DVD......
She was good in Selena, I'll give her that.
I like Kiefer Sutherland's but thats really just because I'm going to marry him- he just doesn't know it yet.
B'way performers are not big enough or important enough to stroke Lipton's ego the way he wants it. This is just another PR scam now.
At least some of these 'new' people are actors; I stopped watching when he had Jay Leno on the show. In what way is he an actor? Because he's on tv?

The Jay Leno thing was atrocious. As for Lopez, I thought she was good in Out of Sight, but that's about it.
It's true that they're running low on good, famous, and experienced movie actors with stories to tell. So the show could have gone in one of two directions- one way was to stick with stars and go ever-younger and less substantial. The other way would have been to stick with good veterans, but poach more from TV, character actors, and theater. To keep it about people who actually have something to say about acting, in other words.
Would that get great ratings? Probably not. Lipton isn't a good enough interviewer for that- he doesn't do much besides butt-licking as far as I can see. But it's still a bit of a shame it hasn't really been tried.
Admittedly, I don't know much about the ratings of Inside the Actors Studio, or the demographic of viewers that typically watches it, but wouldn't you think that the vast majority of people that watched the show when they had guests of more substance would also be the ones to tune in for guests who are less mainstream, though still "quality" actors? I don't see the folks who are excited about the next J-Lo movie marking their calendars to catch her on Inside the Actors Studio, but maybe I'm totally off on that one. In any event, I would think it would all even out in the end...whatever extra/new viewers they get to tune in just for J-Lo (or whatever B-list starlet du jour they dig up) they would probably lose in viewers who would have traditionally tuned in for Kevin Spacey, Paul Newman, Vanessa Redgrave, etc, etc.
Well, A lot of people were excited about Jennifer Lopes's new movie, but it wasn't because of her......it was because we wanted to see Jane Fonda slam her head into a marble table!!!!!!
I still think they need to have the Broadway veterans on there because I think most of the students in there have the stage in mind and would appreicate them. As for commercial appeal......does anyone watch the show besides people like us??????

I don't mean to offend the Selena fans on this board, but she really didn't hit the American mainstream. She never would have reached the heights of Madonna.
Selena was recording her first English album when she died. She was THISCLOSE to making it HUGE in the U.S. And don't even compare Selena to that no-talent hack Madonna! It is very unfair of you to dismiss the career of a woman who hadn't even acheived her peak of fame yet.
Ahhh I love BWW. It's amusing to see the conversation go from the downfall of Inside the Actor's Studio (who has YET to interview Ewan McGregor COUGH COUGH) to Selena and Madonna.
Reason number 32 why I love BWW. Yes folks, I'm making a list.
