Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

Focus on the Family, that fascist faux-Christian organization that would make Jesus puke--just released these guidelines for how to know whether your kid needs brainwashing.

I know it's nothing to joke about, but it seems to be missing a few musical-comedy references.

Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

Before puberty, children aren’t normally heterosexual or homosexual. They’re definitely gender conscious. But young children are not sexual beings yet — unless something sexual in nature has interrupted their developmental phases.

Still, it’s not uncommon for children to experience gender confusion during the elementary school years. Dr. Joseph Nicolosi reports, “In one study of 60 effeminate boys ages 4 to 11, 98 percent of them engaged in cross-dressing, and 83 percent said they wished they had been born a girl.”

Evidences of gender confusion or doubt in boys ages 5 to 11 may include:

1. A strong feeling that they are “different” from other boys.

2. A tendency to cry easily, be less athletic, and dislike the roughhousing that other boys enjoy.

3. A persistent preference to play female roles in make-believe play.

4. A strong preference to spend time in the company of girls and participate in their games and other pastimes.

5. A susceptibility to be bullied by other boys, who may tease them unmercifully and call them “queer,” “fag” and “gay.”

6. A tendency to walk, talk, dress and even “think” effeminately.

7. A repeatedly stated desire to be — or insistence that he is — a girl.

If your child is experiencing several signs of gender confusion, professional help is available. It’s best to seek that help before your child reaches puberty.

“By the time the adolescent hormones kick in during early adolescence, a full-blown gender identity crisis threatens to overwhelm the teenager,” warns psychologist Dr. James Dobson. To compound the problem, many of these teens experience “great waves of guilt accompanied by secret fears of divine retribution.”

If your child has already reached puberty, change is difficult, but it’s not too late.

What a twat. That just gives some over-masculine, huffed up dad more reason to torment and/or beat his poor son who's not becoming a "real man." Maybe somebody should beat the crap out of James Dobson and say it's just his expression of "manly roughhousing" that's so important to enjoy.

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

What I love is that he blames these gender issues on confusion. I know of someone who, as a TINY child, knew he was attracted to boys. That's not sexuality? It's burgeoning even as a child, whether or not you're emotionally mature enough to recognize it for what it is.

Some people should not be allowed to have a license to practice.

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

That's just sick! And the sickest part is that parents actually READ this **** and force their kids to be someone they're not! Better not encourage your son to actually spend time playing with little girls! Better make sure that he's overly aggressive, loves sports, and won't cry! This actaully frightens me.

1. A strong feeling that they are “different” from other boys.

I often feel different from boys...

2. A tendency to cry easily, be less athletic, and dislike the roughhousing that other boys enjoy.

I can cry at the drop of a hat, can't kick a ball five feet to save my life, and hate getting dirty or bruised...

3. A persistent preference to play female roles in make-believe play.

I do love me some princess-y pretending...

4. A strong preference to spend time in the company of girls and participate in their games and other pastimes.

I love my girlfriends, girlfriend!

6. A tendency to walk, talk, dress and even “think” effeminately.

See this walk, the way I sway?

7. A repeatedly stated desire to be — or insistence that he is — a girl.

I do insist that I'm a girl.

This guy is a creep. As a a parent of a young boy who loves musicals and sings like a bird - Dobson - go to hell which is where you belong.

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

For some reason, I was reminded of this book, which I read as a child -- anyone else?

Maybe the image works now...if not, the book is "William's Doll"

Hmmmm. This is the PICKED on kid's fault somehow?

I'm also reminded that James Dobson calls people "Queer, fag and Gay."

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

Good point, Joe. That's bad news for the kids on the playground who get called "retard," also a common hateful phrase used by children that belittles a specific group. Because, according to Jimmie Dobson, a child calling another child a name makes it so.

I am incredibly appalled and offended. He doesn't even once mention premature infatuation with showtunes.

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

The biggest flaw with "evidence" like this is because they are generalizing an entire gender of people. Their entire thinking is based on stereotypes: Heterosexuals are into sports and "roughhousing" whereas Homosexuals are effeminate and dislike all athletic activity. I wouldn't be surprised if these people had never even met a gay man in their life. I mean, I hate sports and "roughhousing" and I'm into theater (make believe), musicals, acting, and singing and I'm not gay.

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

So, wait....

If a kid calls another kid 'fag' on the playground, it makes it so?

So, I guess that's why I'm gay? Because I was called that name a lot when I was a child?

This guy is an idiot.

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

Exactly! I have a very good friend who fit none of those descriptions, was actually the opposite of most of them, and who now lives out in California with his boyfriend. eat that, Big Jimmy Dobson!

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

What pi**** me off is the lack of truth about even basic issues.

"But young children are not sexual beings yet..." is an outright lie. Child psychologists (and parents, for God's sake) know that children are sexual, and experience sexual arousel. And I KNOW that I was attracted to men when I was a very young child--somewhere around two years old. And, no, DOCTOR Dobson, I was not molested.

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

It scares me what kind of children of the corn he wants to nurture: boys who enjoy "roughhousing" and who "tease unmercifully." Aren't these the loser kids who get expelled from school and live in trailer parks across America?

Oh...and my partner works as a construction site supervisor; he is nationally ranked athlete, and never saw a Broadway musical until I met him. He has played sports all his life, and he watches football, basketball, and sometimes baseball (eek). He can't cook. He can't sing. He can't sew. He listens to classic rock. Neither one of us much identifies as "Female."

According to Dobson, he's not gay...hmmm

Funny... he pretty much describes my brother at that age, and he's as hetero as they make 'em.

That's absolutely mad.
Did you see that kid on myspace who had to go to camp to be forced out of homosexuality..He wasn't allowed to talk to his friends/family, or anything. They pretty much brainwashed him. It's so sick.

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

How does a child become Homosexual? I always thought that people were born either straight or gay. It also has nothing to do with gender. My brother when he was little certainly cried a lot, played with my dolls, and he wore lace petticoats. He was born straight. A person can not simply morph into another sexuality.

Nice to know there's no such thing as a lesbian. Rest easy, parents of girls.

Seriously, I wonder what they'd make of tomboys?

re: Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?

I was visiting EuroDisney in Paris this weekend. You know that at Disney theme parks, it's not uncommon to see little girls dressed as Belle, Snow White or other Disney heroines. As a gay man, I was stunned to see a little boy (he couldn't have been more than 6) walking around dressed as Cinderella. I didn't know what to make of it. I guess I applauded his parents who allowed him to act out his fantasy, but I just knew this little guy was going to be facing a difficult time when he got older.

The boy seemed perfectly comfortable dressed as a girl.
