re: Is That you In Your Avatar? - Swinging 20

Incidentally, tazber's gibberish posts made me think of something I read today in my BOOK OF FACTS:

"To the early Greeks, foreign languages seemed to be a meaningless succession of syllables, like "bar-bar-bar." They called all foreigners "barbarol" ("stammerers"), and in English this became "barbarians." At first, there was no particularly derogatory meaning to the word. It simply stood for "foreigner." After all, the Greeks were encountering foreigners like the Syrians, Egyptians, and Babylonians, all highly cultured people."

Michael (my boyfriend, for those who don't know) speaks fluent French. He lived in Paris, off an on, for nearly a decade.

I've been wanting him to teach me, because I think it'd be cute for us to have our own conversations while we're out in public, but he doesn't think he'd be a good teacher.

We speak Spanglish in my house. If you don't know either language, it may seem one-sided. But you'd get the gist.

He's American, but he lived in Paris for a bit.

For a little bit, I was seeing this Dutch boy. Then I moved on to this Brazilian, but he went off to Florida for a couple of weeks. That's when I met Michael.

Leo, the Brazilian, looks like Dr Luka from ER.
