Back when I tried to sign up, their software for some reason wasn't supporting AOL email addresses.
Since I found this board, I rearly go back to talkinbroadway.com. They do have some interesting stuff on occasion, but it usually ends up being discussed here. And this format is better.
Never heard of it, I am Strickly a BWWer
I tried posting on ATC once, but they wouldn't accept my user name. :-P
BWW is just 100 times better than ATC.
This board is better.
Though this board has it's share of unfriendly people. Talkin Broadway, and Musicals.net are much worse -a bunch of bitches.
I've never even heard of Talkin' Broadway, so I guess it must be goin' down.
I used Jalexis as my username and they deemed it offensive. O_o WTF, mate?^^
Anyway, I didn't know you had to be 16...maybe that's why. They just didn't have the guts to tell me I was too young.
I was one of the immigrants after the unfortunate shut down of Broadway.com by Emperor Wontorek. It was between this and ATC and frankly it was the formatting that was much more friendly and modern than the outdated and just plain unattractive format of ATC.
I used to lurk at ATC. I posted infrequently. I left that board after the posters attacked a very good friend of mine. It was a vicious, personal attack on my friend. He was only trying to explain what was going on in the life of an actress friend of his. That attack turned me off ATC.
Any claws on this board are wrapped in humor. While ATC, at its height, probably had more industry professionals posting, I feel far more comfortable over here. I do lurk over at the dark side, but I get my theatre fix from BWW.

Actually, this board replaces common sense, dignity, and respect for others.
Why did the boards on Broadway.com shutdown?
I've been over there, and like MichaelBennett, I do not like the formatting. I've posted a couple of times, and I've never liked that a thread is not popped back up to the top when someone responds in it.
And I've seen Midtowngym posting over there! I've wanted to wave back!
Also, I agree with the ones here who say the nastiness on this board is just as bad as ATC.

I was a regular on ATC for a couple of years before I discovered BWW (by the way, I have AOL and never had a problem). There are some older, incredibly knowledgeable posters over there who can describe in detail things like seeing Brando in Streetcar and all manner of shows from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I remember someone asking about Streisand in Funny Girl once and more than a dozen posters were able to relate fascinating stories about seeing her, Mimi Hines, Lainie Kazan et al..... and comparing and contrasting the strengths of each. Also, you can go over there and ask about some seemingly forgotten show that ran for 3 performances in 1967 and 4 or 5 people can tell you all about it. When it comes to learning about (in detail) Broadway pre-1975, there's probably no better site on the web.
However, it's a VERY SLOW board. While the discussions can be quite interesting (and I still post from time to time) HOURS can pass where virtually nothing new is posted. That seems to never happen on BWW (other than maybe the middle of the night) so this certainly is the much more lively and entertaining board.
One of the many reasons I read ATC is the knowledge they have that Margo mentions. I've learned so much from a lot of those posters.
It seems like that board slowed up quite a bit when they did the re-vamp about a year ago, I think it was.

I've tried TalkinBroadway, and the format of the board is just too difficult for my simple mind

bdwaygirl,
Yeah, I joined BWW 4/5/04, principally because for some reason I've never been able to figure out, right after ATC revamped the board shortly before that, it just seemed to die completely. There used to be dozens even hundreds of new posts every hour, but after that -- Nothing. Posting slowed to a crawl and it's never recovered. I don't know why.

i never liked their format. this one is much better
Yes, I sometimes had trouble keeping up over there, it moved so fast and posts would fall off the board in about 3 days or less, depending on the news any particular time. Now, threads are lasting about a week or so, which even with the "older messages" page, would probably have only extended their time another 1/2 day or so.
I actually find the format over there much more easier. Granted the threads aren't around for years, but sometimes that can be a good thing.
