It never stops hurting...

Posted: 7/11/05 at 12:51pmBeing called a faggot. I was called a faggot today at the phone job I work at, and after years of feeling comfortable as a gay man, being called that word still stings. A lot. I was called that word everyday in Junior and High School, and a few selected times since. It never looses its sting. It never fails to make me cry. I know I need to get a stronger skin, but it's one word that will always hurt me deeply. What is with people and their hate?

Urgh people are unintelligent, disgusting, and cruel. They're stupid, I'm sorry
. I know what you mean about the whole school thing, my best friend is treated that way a lot. Luckily he has people like me and my other friends to beat up anyone who comes along, I suppose that's not the right way but hey. I hope you feel better, they're so not worth it

Posted: 7/11/05 at 12:54pmIt is Horrible that someone called you that. No matter what your age or how healthy you are spiritually and emotionally - it still stings to be called such an ugly word. Did they say it to your face or behind your back? And can you bring charges against them? I wouldn't stand for that for one second at any job - no one has a right to say that about you in a work environment (or anywhere else for that matter).

Posted: 7/11/05 at 12:54pmBobby.....just rise above these creatures. You are what you are, a terrific person. They say those things because they are so emotionally limited and they need to feel important.

Posted: 7/11/05 at 12:57pmNo. I do surveys at my job. One of our surveys is calling people who were in a government job training program and doing a survey with them to evaluate that program. The guy wouldn't answer the questions directly, and since it's a survey, I have to make sure he is giving the answers and it's not me interpreting them. So I had to keep redirecting this one question, and he got frustrated, started swearing and then told me to "stop acting like a f***ing faggot", and then hung up. I coded the survey a refusal. I also looked at his behavior history in his file and found out he's a genuine loser who was kicked out of the program twice and has failed his ged test numerous times. Made me feel a little better.

You've got his telephone number, right?
Post it, we'll take care of the rest.

Posted: 7/11/05 at 12:59pmOh if someone I worked with called me that I'd raise hell.

Posted: 7/11/05 at 1:00pmI'm so sorry that you had to go throught that. People are cruel and insensitive. Keep your head up high and know that you are better than anyone who dares call you that awful name.

I think the people who told you to try to rise above were giving you good advice. Bringing charges, well, I dunno.
You already know intellectually that what he said was really more about himself than about you.

This sucks. I hate people who hate and I don't think it's hypocritical to say so.

I am so sorry you had that experience.
Add me to the list of people who hate/despise/loathe that kind of behavior.

Posted: 7/11/05 at 1:09pmReading in his file that he is a complete social defect made me feel a lot better.

Posted: 7/11/05 at 1:11pmAs far as bringing charges goes - if I had known when I left my last job that my boss had referred to me as a bitchy queen behind my back - you bet your ass I would have jumped on board the dozen or so lawsuits that are already filed against that organization in regards to discrimination - the company has a huge problem with discrimination and I got out without too many scratches. Never, Never, NEVER work for a financial institution, if you can avoid it. Those people are so money/power hungry, and don't give a tinker's damn about human beings in general.

Posted: 7/11/05 at 1:16pmI stepped out of the room right after it happened and my supervisor went after me, knowing I was pissed off. I told him what happened, and he didn't even seem to care. I looked right at him and said "YOu will never understand what it's like to be called that word." And he doesn't. What angers me a lot about this is my supervisors inability to see why being called that word would hurt so much.

Posted: 7/11/05 at 1:18pmIsn't it funny that as kids we would say "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will NEVER hurt me." , but as adults we all know that words some times hurt more than they should. I always think that we should look at the sourse and realize where it's coming from and just feel sorry for that person. I have a friend who always says "pray for them because they're ignorant."

Posted: 7/11/05 at 1:20pmIt's funny. I was very pissed at first. Now I"m totally feeling more powerful because I know that he has a pea for a brain and will never be liked by anyone. Or licked.
