Also I like what jrb said. My nephew did something similar to that when someone called him faggot in school. He's not gay, but my point is, when he was called that, instead of acting all mad, he said, "Am I supposed to take that as an insult? It's not."

I know the word 'faggot' itself is not nice, but I hope you see what he was trying to express.

I'm always appalled at reading situations like this because no matter what you do people refuse to learn their lesson. I mean, you cry about it and cower to the people antagonizing at you, and they continue, but you stand up to them, and they keep it up because to them that's adding fuel to the fire. In other words immasculating their precious bravado. At least in my experience that's how it's been.

But, just to play with their minds it could be fun to say "That's HOMOSEXUAL, get your facts straight!" Because of course ignorant people hate being corrected in situations like that.

Actually you might want to develop something that the gays have used to survive for eons: The Devastating Comeback.

Whilst in the high school locker room, for no apparent reason to me at the time, a fellow I had been in school with since first grade announced very loudly to the group, "Now hear this: FindingNamo (not my name at the time though subsequently legally changed) is a faggot." Without missing a beat, I yelled, "Ask Chad Johson (not his real name) how HE knows." Ohhhhhhh how they laughed, AT CHAD, and with me. Oh, poor Chad, he was steamed.

And ever since then I have been prepared. Although it rarely happens, since I'm so butch. (Shut up Robbie!)

As an openly gay teenager, I have been called every derogatory name in the book by my peers because of my orientation. It really doesn't stop hurting. I believe that you have to rise above the situations and the name-calling, and be the better, stronger person. Bobby, what happened to you is abhorrent, and I applaud you and the fact that you didn't fall to the level of the homophobe who berated you. Stay strong!
