Good luck, Namo! I didn't know you aspired to summer stock. My fingers are definitely crossed...

in hopes that there's no internet access.

Hopefully getting a job somewhere. The one place where I thought I'd get a job did not offer me one. I'm also going to NYC for the first time on June 21st. I'm also going to dance camp for my college dance team on July 20.

I've got a job thing at a fairly well known theater company...that I don't want to jynx by talking about it.

Beyond that, I'm headin' to England.

It's not an aspiration, Rath, more of a fun little summer avocation to give back to a business that has been so incredibly generous to me. Maybe one day you'll know what that feels like (IF you keep up with your classes, you just never really know, honestly, there could conceivably be something for you to do someday; so cling to those dreams and save your pennies to perhaps produce some sort of showcase for yourself in the coming years that could slightly possibly lead to something else if some producer sees you and nobody else is available for a walk on in her show).

As for your little dig at me, that's fine. Perhaps you've realized how tacky it was to make fun of disabled children? I know a lot of disabled activists who refer to people without disabilities as the Not (Currently) Disabled. I hope you stay that way and don't believe in karma!

I just got an e-mail earlier today that I've been accepted to this program I applied to as a spur-of-the-moment thing. I will be spending two weeks in Thailand working with the local youth and government to engage in mangrove restoration and raising environmental awareness in local communities.

Now I'm stressing a little because I have to come up with the cost of travel, and I'm but a mere college student. Does anyone have any particularly lucrative fundraising ideas?

"I know a lot of disabled activists who refer to people without disabilities as the Not (Currently) Disabled."

My cousin Lynne who died after a long battle with multiple sclerosis used to call the rest of us "Temporarily Abled."

And not to be too harsh on Rath. In some ways the INVISIBLE disabilities are even worse, like the way an unloving mother can fracture a psyche. So awful. But you know what they say, it's never too late to have a happy childhood!

You are living proof of that.

My father has become blind late in life. He fathered ten children and has paid all the dues that any man should. When we have a few beers late in the night, he will say "I never thought that someday I could not see."

Thanks, Queenie!

In all seriousness, it is sweet how you're always thinking of me. It doesn't go unnoticed.

You should try looking outward yourself once in a while. It's very healthy.

I just enrolled in my schools summer repertory program and got cast in "Daddy's Dyin' Who's Got the Will?" as Marlene. I'm really excited. I only get payed $700 but it's two months worth of rent and I'm in no condition to turn down any money!

B-lawyer, I hadn't seen your story before. A friend reminds me that life can turn on a dime at anytime. We have to get as much seeing in as we can, while we can.

with so many friends, you would think you would be friendlier. or, at the very least, better well-adjusted.

He might just have the one, Robb, whom he continually quotes.

Phebus-

Try writing a letter to family/friends detailing the program and how much it means to you and the people you will be working with. Most people will be happy to help out someone they know and even if each person gives $10 or so, that still reduces the amount you have to come up with yourself. While you're out there, get a nice picture of you and the kids/community you are in and make copies to send in thank you notes to all your financial "backers".

I'll be working this summmer and getting ready for my final year of college. Also me and my family are taking a vacation to the caribbean the first week in july so I'm really looking forward to that. Plus I may get to go to Orlando later in july to perform in an honors band, so not a bad summer coming up....
