"This relationship was obviously consensual. He didn't rape her and she waited 4 years to come forward about this. "
If she was underage, (and I am not saying the story is true) - it's illegal. And people can argue all they want that she wanted it, she knew what she was doing.. but at that age, with raging hormones - and in the presence of someone she admired, saying she understood what was happening fully isn't valid.
Yup. And he's not going to be able to pull out the "She told me she was 18" defense, either, considering he (allegedly) met her at a high school.

James Barbour.
I always thought he'd be perfect for the Encores "Lolita, My Love"

How do you know it wasn't traumatic? Do you know her?
And she was 14, at the time. There's a reason we have laws for this kind of thing. Under the law a 14 year old is incapable of giving consent. Period. That's why it's called "statutory rape" -- whether she was a willing participant or not, the law protects children and declares that they don't have the requisite where-with-all to say "yes" or "no" in this situation. And even if a child seems willing, an intelligent and responsible adult doesn't take a 14 year old to his apartment to have sex her. An adult having sex with a child that age is comitting a crime. Period.
IF (and only if) these allegations turn out to be true, he deserves to go to jail.
Not me. I was 17.
What I meant was that this wasn't just someone he met at the stage door. It was (allegedly) a pre-existing relationship where he knew who she was. And insert any other allegedlies above where appropriate.
Margo - thank you for that clear and concise visit with the law.
I've engaged in some discussion on ATC and am disgusted by a few posters who speak as if they are in a bad afterschool special "well she wanted it.. it wasn't rape"
Again - I am responding to the allegations - and I hope for all parties involved that the truth is discovered.

Yeah, no, I totally agree with all of you. Though, the story does seem pretty fishy. She was 14...to her a kiss on the cheek might have been "sexual." Ya know? I dunno. Plus the fact that she's an aspiring actress, maybe she's trying to get some attention? I Dunno. though she didn't release her name or picture. so who knows.

I agree...SHE WAS ONLY FIFTEEN! He was thirty-five! There's nothing okay about that.
Umm, RentBoy, one of the charges is sodomy.... that's a little too specific for there to be any question as to whether it was inappropriately sexual. Updated On: 4/6/06 at 12:27 PM

Sodomy
It's between
God and me
And also James!...
"maybe she's trying to get some attention?"
I doubt having your character, potential sexual promiscuity, etc open to ridicule, discussion, examination is the kind of attention any one wants - even the ego driven.
If it turns out she's lying, her career and credibility will be over. Period.
Craig-
that disgusts me too. Especially with sex crimes, everyone should be VERY careful not to say anything like that, cause itsreally, REALLY not right. A 15 year old engaging in anything like that with a 30 something year old---not right.
If that is the case, then the damage has already been done (to both parties, that is).
Even if her allegations are 100 percent true, it's not like this is some calculated career move, as if there's some casting director waiting around saying: "Who should we get for this part? Hey! How about that chick who was sodomized by James Barbour!"
There's a good reason why rape victims aren't identified in the media.

I had sex with an Annie Get Your Gun cowboy in his car. And it got me nowhere. Not even a ride home.
A mid-sized market local anchorman did nothing for my career, either.
Please...I had sex (great sex) with someone high up somewhere (don't want to get too specific).
And I'm STILL a secretary.

Still, mid-sized is nothing to sneeze at.
If it was Randy Price I'm gonna scratch your eyes out while wearing Envy nail polish, Calvin.
I really thing we need to adress BSO's question. How do you think this will affect the sales of the Dracula DC?

I'm pretty sure there will be an increase in sales to executives in the Dept. of Homeland Security.
Hell, Roman Polanski might be using it in his next film.

It's wrong to jump to conclusions...he could be wrongly accused. I realize it's illegal if she was 14 years old, but her character is also a factor here. Suppose it were true about James Barbour, but also she slept with everyone in town from the time she was 12.
Broadway Legend Joined: 7/22/03
It doesn't make it magically legal if she did sleep with everybody in town since she was 12 years old. See how that works?
"but also she slept with everyone in town from the time she was 12. "
As namo said - doesn't matter. There are laws against sex with a minor for a reason. It's not arbitrary.
Wow.. it IS like an afterschool special here too today
