I've seen her live. I know firsthand she can sing and sing very well. Maybe after her cheeseball spokesmodel era ends she will do some theatre or record some standards. I enjoy Jess alot.

Her concert in WPB was amazing, she sang about 22 songs in a row and didn't miss a beat.

I don't think it's ever been a question of whether or not she could sing. She has a lovely voice. She is SO much more talented than her sister. It's just that the songs that she chooses to sing suck and 90% of the time she chooses to over sing. Did anyone see the painful variety show that she and Nick did? At one point they snag I Got You Babe and she over sang the HELL out of it. I mean, c'mon. That is one of the simplest songs ever. It sounded ridiculous.

I find Celine Dion and Mariah Carey to oversing a lot. They have great voices though. A lot of people on here say that Jessica can't sing.

It seems like she often resorts to a Britney-esque sort of sound lately. I'm not sure if her voice is damaged or if she's just trying to fit in.

I really think it is more of a "Trying to fit in" thing. Yes, Celine and Mariah do over sing at times, but for some reason it doesn't sound as comical when they do it.

Jessica just has been releasing some songs without big notes, such as "public affair" but if you listen to the entire CD she still belts like she has always done it.

my favorite songs of hers are the slow ones.
Her cover of "angels" and "take my breath away" are amazing. especially live. and i used to hate that song "With you" until she started doing that stripped down version.

Her first single "I Wanna Love You Forever" is a stunner. It was an interesting choice for a 1st single and it gave me such hope that she was going to be different. Then she went the Britney route and starting highliting her cleavage and not her voice. It was too bad. I think she will come full circle once her teeny appeal years end and her fans mature.

I really don't think her versions of those songs compare to the originals. Her singing just doesn't sound as good to me as it did years back. I liked her older songs like I Wanna Love You Forever, A Little Bit, and I Think I'm in Love with You well enough.

She's a good singer. I liked her first cd way more than any of her others. I really like when she sings slow songs.

Exactly. Jessica should stick to singing ballads. And quit the faux-whiny pop sound. It may not make her as much money, but, oh well. She is quite the talented girl.

Anyone else find it interesting that she played Cassie in her high school's production of A Chorus Line?

I always liked Jessica in the old days. She has a great voice. But lately, she's got this breathy thing going in her voice that really bothers me. Especially, ironically, in her cover of "Take My Breath Away." It sounded like she was winded the whole song. She's a great singer and a very pretty girl, I just wish that she wouldn't fall into the trap of today's market for sex and nothing else when it comes to being a pop star.

Even though her first album was kind of boring, though containing some great songs, it was her best. I did like Irresistible, but it made her look like Britney Spears with a better voice.

It's a shame that they still won't let her sing the way she wants, unless that whine/whisper thing she's got going on is her choice. She acts as if she has control over her material but you know she doesn't. The new album will sell, but from what I've heard (clips of the album) it's just a singles album, not much of an artistic statement.

I think that "Sweet Kisses" was crap except for the 3 singles that they released("I wanna love you forever", "I think im in love with you" and "Where you are"), in "Irresistible", she was forced to be a "Britney-wannabe", and she said she liked half the songs from the CD. "Irresistible" had only 2 singles released because of the 9-11 incident, but the CD has a few really good songs, I'd say 8 out of the 12 songs are excellent. She has a great duet with Marc Anthony and other great ballads as well as good fast songs. "In this skin" was excellent I thought, the sales of this CD were slow when it came out, but then thanks to "Newlyweds" and the re-release of the CD, she sold over 3 million records. Well deserved.

Yeah, I can't stand her voice. She sounded pretty good on her first few singles, but she just flat out can't sing now. Did anyone see her and Ashlee sing "The Little Drummer Boy" on that stupid Christmas special? Ugh, I don't think I've ever heard anything that heinous before or since.

I just really liked when she sang Where You Are and I Wanna Love You Forever. In her last album I really liked Underneath, but now I am not really a fan. Now she is just annoying I think she cares about being famous more than singing.

See, I think her versions of Take My Breath Away and Angels are both HIDEOUS. Lots of people can belt and do cool breathy things when they sing. It just seems that she does it too much and totally when she shouldn't. Her natural voice is lovely but whomever produces her tunes seems very out of touch.

Someone mentioned Celine Dion over singing. She has a natural thing in her voice that is totally unique, almost like a yodel. That is always there and some don't like that. Her songs usually build to her high powerful notes. They seem to come at appropriate times. I can't help it. I love Celine's recordings. I used to listen to her self titled English CD every night while I slept. (Water From The Moon still brings tears to my eyes.) I just can't stand to watch her perform. Gah.

I absolutely love most of her first album, and I think she -- when not doing the Britney thing -- has a great set of pipes. I sort of feel the same way about her as I do about Christina Aguilera. Girl can SING, regardless of how much I don't like the sort of stereotypical imagery she's fallen into.
