Jets QB, Geno Smith will be out 6 to 10 weeks into the season after having his jaw broken by a sucker punch by a teammate who has since been released by the team.

I assumed Smith had been released from the Jets. He was abysmal last season, and Vick was ill-prepared and just as bad when he went in.
I think it's well past time to start rebuilding the team from scratch.

Smith was the one who got punched. The one who punched him got released. The Jets will go with what they have now or try and pick up another QB.Allegedly Smith will be back but who knows how this will play out when the dust settles.

I meant I assumed Smith was released after last season due to his poor performance, not because of the punching incident. The Jets are such a dysfunctional organization. They get rid of Rex and keep a crappy QB like Smith? Just clean house.

Now the Jets have, unlike the Mets, good ownership & field management .Unfortunately, they still feel Smith deserves another shot. This was to be his make or break year for Smith but now this nonsense may go into next season unless whoever plays QB now sets the world on fire.
Admittedly, Smith is not a good quarterback. Up to now, he has led a charmed life. Due to what happened today, this may end or continue into next year. Hopefully, he will never play as a Jet again but everything is now up in the air.

Can anyone explain how this is funny? Every news report I've seen along with post crossing my FB feed, seem to think this is hysterical. A man get assaulted, his jaw broken in two places.....and its FUNNY?
Granted, I am deep in Patriots' Country, but I still fail to see any humor in it. I hope he presses charges.

The issue is/was that both Smith and Rex were both still under contract by the end of last season. Since that would mean having to pay whoever they picked to go the rest of their contract money, they couldn't have afforded to do both. Hence them letting Rex go and managing with Geno till his contract is up.

Geno Smith is a small handed QB who cannot throw under adverse circumstances, The Jets will not suffer from this, he was lousy. They will suck because they suck everywhere.
