HE LIVES IN MY TOWN!!!!!!! He is essentially a folk hero here now- everyone I know (from this town or not) wants to be his friend.
But seriously, they essentially sent SWAT teams to arrest him (the neighbors were terrified that there was a REAL criminal around)- did they really think he was that much of a risk???

Posted: 8/11/10 at 1:16amI feel bad for the boyfriend, honestly. At least one of the local newspapers reported the bf's name, which is causing a bit of a stink in the neighborhood. He's a popular SAT tutor around here, but based on the comments I heard while doing my errands today, more than a few parents are thinking of not sending their kids to him anymore so as not to feel like their connected to the "scandal". I don't condone the parents' reactions, but was it really necessary to release the boyfriends name in the first place?

So, every Thursday the Chelsea Clearview (NYC) has 'Classic Movie Night' - hosted by Hedda Lettuce, with prizes, trivia and a pre-movie show that is warned to be for 'mature audiences only'.
Tomorrow night they are showing the classic 'Network'.
I can't help but think that Steven Slater would make a perfect guest host for the evening's festivities. 
ps: it's a run night at the movies: I meet a friend there as many Thursday nights as I can.

I've been thinking alot about this, and I agree with Taz and others who don't admire his behavior. However, I understand why this has resonated with so many people. Especially because we have all had such frustrations with air travel, so the setting couldn't be more appropriate for a meltdown and 'take this job and shove it' move. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out on the legal front.

The census seems to be that he did what most of us only think of doing, but sanity sets in for us. I feel bad for him because he was really pushed to behave this way...I don't believe it was premeditated. I have been known to snap, but luckily it was in the privacy of my own home.

I don't have enough facts to make a "final call," but at first blush I'm not on his side.
We're all read the horror stories of flight attendants having people arrested and hauled off planes in this era of increased security, so we know there are options if a passenger misbehaves.
But as I say, I don't know very many facts about this story.

What he did was a bit over the top but it seems that the passenger was clearly in the wrong. It seems the plane hadn't gotten to the gate and she shouldn't have been getting her luggage from the overhead. I read a comment about it that NY passengers are some of the rudist. This is happening everywhere. A few weeks ago a woman almost hit me while making a right hand turn. She was clearly in the wrong and instead of saying sorry, she threw me the finger and yelled "F You". I think he just snapped. God knows I have wanted to just say eff it and walk off of a job. Just my random thoughts. And I agree the boyfrind's name didn't need to be brought into it. But thats our wonderful journalists for you. This story was reported this afternoon before they reported the primary numbers here. Just my random thoughts.

Uncageg, I couldn't agree more: the wronger people are in NYC, the more agreesive they are toward the innocent party.
I still think arresting the woman and dragging her ass off the plane would be more satisfying an outcome, though a much less dramatic story.
Also, I'd probably be more inclined to be on his side if it weren't on a plane, a situation where I, as a passenger, often feel victimized in general sort of way.
