Kristin Chenoweth? Seriously. She once described herself thusly.

Will Manhuntgate be the end of McCain?

FWIW only one of them donated $2300 to McCain, I read that the other supposedly donated $100 or so to Obama.

Manhuntgate (thanks, Namo!) ends with a resignation. From this morning's Towleroad:

===

***STATEMENT from LARRY BASILE

"There has been a depiction this week of MANHUNT being Republican. All my life, I have never voted to the right, and have always been generous to 20th Century Democrats, Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders, HRC, and the NGLTF.

"I was arrested at the Supreme Court and FDA in Act-Up actions, and was the founder of the Grass Roots Gay Rights Fund, which over the years has raised more than $800K. I was the Treasurer of Out Week magazine, which was a powerful force in its time. I began giving Obama donations in March 2007, and I have sent several checks that have yet to be reported. The hat and t-shirt I wear say 'Obama for President', as does the sign in front of my house. I refuse to live in a country that is so marred by war and hate. To me, Barak (sic) is by far the best candidate, probably better than we deserve.

"It should be known that Jonathan Crutchley's donation to McCain left the entire Board in disbelief. I am disappointed that we have lost some customers, and I understand the anger. It is too bad for the web site if we lose customers, but PLEASE never refer to me as a Republican. I consider it an offense.

"Earlier today, at the request of the Board, Jonathan has stepped down as Chairman. Sincerely, Larry Basile."

Good god, I thought that photo was taken from the Andy Griffith reunion show.

You know one of them has an Aunt Bea.

once again those who demand tolerance and acceptance fail to practice it.

"once again those who demand tolerance and acceptance fail to practice it."

Papa, I don't think that a party that tries to write me out of the Constitution has earned my tolerance.

At any rate, the result was exactly what I should imagine a Republican would respect: a marketplace response. A company that wants my dollars donates some of those dollars to a group that fairly consistently works against my best interest. What do I do? Take my dollars away. What does the company do? Ask for the resignation of the person responsible for the initial action.

Hear, hear, Mr. Basile!

Now lets get back to work! (i.e. troll for hot boy ass)

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Reg - is that what happened? Has there been a decline in revenue due to this? Everything I've seen, which admittedly, is little, indicates that this was based on politics and not economics.

I was kind of unsure about the ethics of forcing the guy to step down, but then I realized I don't really have a problem with it. After all, if an officer of the NAACP had been found to be donating money to the Ku Klux Klan, he would be expected to speedily resign.

Madbrian, I don't know, of course. I'll admit I'm just guessing. But I would have to assume, based on every experience I've had in life, that it ultimately came down to (or the company feared it would come down to) dollars.

And Crutchley is still one of the owners, so he's still going to be collecting money from all of the gay men that his chosen candidate would gladly see sent to the ovens.

Roscoe - your comparison of

"After all, if an officer of the NAACP had been found to be donating money to the Ku Klux Klan, he would be expected to speedily resign."

is offensive on several levels. In your example, you're equating Manhunt with the NAACP and the Republican party with the Klan.

What a bargain! $2,300 bucks to get your web site on the front pages of every gay media outlet, and a lot of mainstream outlets. Clicks are bucks! Big bucks! Genius!

Yes, but only assuming that the taint of supporting the Republicans doesn't cling . . .

Yeah, the comparison of Manhunt with the NAACP is a bit much, but I'll stand by comparing the GOP with the Klan.

Hehehe. Reggie said "taint."

They may have received some angry emails, but I can't see too many Manhunt members caring one way or another or saying "I'm so mad at Manhunt, I'm moving my cruising to gay.com!"

I knew someone would pick up on "taint," but I thought it would be Borstal Boy.

PJ, you never know. If the gays get mad enough . . .

But the quick response probably took care of it.
