This is rather funny, because I really gave up on (actually the correct word here is caring!) the Red Soxs when they traded Fisk!

Whatever. Did the Sox fans actually expect him to stay? I say, for that price, the Yankees can have him. Damon is not even remotely worth $52 million for 4 years, imho. I'm more pissed off about losing Bill Mueller. I loved him. He was a real gamer. Sure he didn't have crazy power and wasn't gold glove caliber, but he was a solid player, who got the job done and didn't cost an arm and a leg. I have a feeling the team's going to be in sorry shape when all is said and done...though I am glad to see Renteria go. Blech! We totally should have kept Cabrera.

I have to agree with Mabel on all fronts. I'm surprised, but not devastated by Damon's departure.

My friend was a huge Red Sox fan and she loved Johnny Damon (she had one of those "Johnny is my homeboy" t-shirts- which I think many people will be burning in the streets now). I feel like I should send her a sympathy card or something.

I am so pissed off right now and so is the rest of the school. My Math teacher is the biggest Red Sox fan I know and when I asked her how she felt she said "I don't want to talk about it." She even has a signed poster of him and everything which she has yet to take down I told her that it would be a good idea to burn it to which she agreed.

It has not been a good off season for the Red Sox. Now I really want to go to a Yankke game so I can boo Damon. He is no longer my favorite baseball player. Now my new Red Sox crush is Jonathan Papelbon.*sigh*

He's a good player, obviously, but he's also a center fielder on the cusp of the big decline. The Yankees gave him too many years, but at least it's not that ridiculous 7-year contract Boras wanted.

Oh, Rath. *shakes head* I know you're not into the sports fan thing, but it ain't all rational. Or much rational, really. We take these things very personally, which is why you can't mention the topic of Andy Pettitte around me on certain days. *sniffle*

But yeah, comparing Johnny Damon to Babe Ruth? Puh-lease. He's not even Wade Boggs. If you want a "black moment" in recent franchise history, it's obviously the loss of Clemens, or more recently, the bile-filled departures of Garciaparra and Martinez, which showed Boston really didn't learn a thing from 1996.

$13 million a year is more than Damon's worth, but hey, he was coming from the team with the second-highest payroll. And the Yanks' budget, even with this contract, will be down from last year's by about $30 million so far.

For anyone who was worried about Bernie, he's signed for a $1.5 million, 1-year contract with $1.5 million in incentives. It's a sweetheart deal, because we (and Joe Torre, more importantly) love Bernie and want him to retire a lifelong Yankee. He'll probably be a DH and backup outfielder.

I live in conecticut which is smack in between the Red Sox and the Yankees. Then of course I am an ex-New Yorker. I never know who to root for. Anyway, I can't for the musical version of this : DAMON YANKEES.

Oh, wow, I never meant to compare Johnny Damon to Babe Ruth in that regard, I just meant that players switching from the Red Sox to the Yankees isn't something that should be taken lightly. If it sounded like I was comparing their playing ability/legacy or whatever, I'm sorry, I blame my cold meds.
