There is more to the man than this issue. As for having every intention of believing that I agre.. well, did you even read the rest of my post? Have you read my other posts? Obviously, I don't agree. You'd think that from me saying that I don't agree, that it would be clear that I didn't agree. No? Not clear enough. Okay, I don't agree.

Stop trying to pick fights.

yes there is more to "Huck" that his vehement hatred of homosexuals. he also thinks AIDS patients should be quarantined on a deserted island.

Oh, and Man and dinosaur walked the earth together because the world is less than 8000 years old and evolution doesn't exist.

I have no reason to believe you don't believe this as well.

well what the **** do you believe then? you've admitted to being a republican and supporting one of the most mind numbingly bigoted, ignorant and religiously extreme members of the party. you expect me to believe you have any sort of moderate view points? BULL SH*T. you're a fag hater just like him. only you know if you admit you'll get ripped to shreds here.

Nexttoelectric...throwing around the "F" word isn't doing you any favors.

I dislike Huckabee as much as you and the fact that he's become a prominent national political/cultural figure is downright scary, but it's counterproductive to throw verbal firebombs.

Just gives the other side more ammo.

Say what you will, I think Huckabee kept his cool reasonably well, and Stewart did a nice job of not attacking instead of questioning.

Huckabee has a kind face and an interesting energy, so his beliefs and words are kind of a cold shock. There's a lack of congruity. Wonder if he honestly believes the stuff he says he does.

I think you just nailed his appeal. He couches his beliefs in an even-tempered, aw shucks, folksy package that initially can distract you from the fact that he's pretty hard-core.

Having met him once, he is actually a fairly nice person...just kinda whacked.

Yes, he's hardcore, and truly misguided. If he switched his rhetoric closer to a medial line, he'd be more in tune with who he is.

I have no doubt that he absolutely believes what he says he does. Any cursory reading of any interview with him can show you that.

If he switched his rhetoric closer to a medial line, he'd be more in tune with who he is.

Actually, if he switched his rhetoric closer to that of Fred Phelps, he'd be more in tune with who is.

Those of you who think that because he's funny and personable he can't really be a crazed religious zealot are the ones who are seriously misguided.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution. But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God. And that’s what we need to do, is to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards, rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family."

"There's only one explanation for it [his poll surge in Iowa}, and it's not a human one. It's the same power that helped a little boy with two fish and five loaves feed a crowd of five thousand people. And that's the only way that our campaign could be doing what it's doing. And I'm not being facetious, nor am I trying to be trite. There literally are thousands of people across this country who are praying that a little will become much. And it defies all explanation. It has confounded the pundits, and I'm enjoying every minute of their trying to figure it out. And until they look at it from an experience just beyond human, they'll never figure it out. And that's probably just as well. That's honestly why it's happening."

Oh, i know he's invested, Phyllis. Thing is, when people are that extreme, they are either misguided or they have an unhealthy agenda (although those two things have a lot in common with each other). If he believed the opposite of what he spews, and broadcast more liberal views, I think he'd be rather powerful, but in that good way.

I get what you're saying. I just think that same charm and charisma has worked quite well for him as it is. My blood goes cold (like Cindy McCain's!) when I think about him being elected president.

Yeah, true. It's just naive, isn't it, to wish the charismatic people out there would use their potential for good.

Pout.

And did anyone see Joel Osteen and his Mizzuz on Larry King? Both with beautific Pat Boone smiles, talking about loving gay people because God loves everybody who's made "mistakes..." When asked bluntly if it's a choice, Joel said, "I believe it is, Larry..." The new "I love you" brand of intolerance is actually even more offensive, because it predisposes a need for validation by these people.

"Love the sinner, hate the sin" crap is just Hatred Lite.

Yep. And wouldn't it be lovely if there was another "sin" they could go after for a while - divorce, pre-martial sex, whatever? I mean, I get that's where it will head once they've cut the head off the scourge of homosexuality once and for all, but in the meanwhile, can't a homo get a break from this sh*t once in a while?

"Sin" is just a BS concept to keep the rabble in line.

Why would they attack their own people?

Of course he can't say anything about Britney and Fed... They go against everything he thinks he stands for. But they are allowed to marry and divorce in seconds without getting any flack from the same people who want to 'define the definition of marriage"

It's easier to attack someone that's different...

Huckabee: "Wives Submit To Husbands"

Here's part of the text of a Southern Baptist Convention full-page ad in USA Today in 1998 that Mike Huckabee signed:

"A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ."

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/12/huckabee-wives.html

Huckabee Equated Homosexuality With Pedophilia, Necrophilia

... In a 1998 book decrying American culture, Huckabee was no seeker of common ground. He drew stark lines, equating environmentalists with pornographers and homosexuality with pedophilia and necrophilia. He also declared that people who do not believe in God tend to be immoral and to engage in "destructive behavior." He drew a rather harsh picture of an American society starkly split between people of faith and those of a secular bent, with the latter being a direct and immediate threat to the nation.

Huckabee equates homosexuality with bestiality

Well, I don’t think that’s a radical view to say we’re going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we’re going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal.

Huckabee on birth control

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

What happened to 'One person marrrying another person"?

It has nothing to do with multiple wives...

He's a moron and is trying anything to make his losing point sound like something.

There is more to the man than this issue.

So? There was more to David Duke than just how much he hated black people.
