A Star is Born w/Judy is on PBS right now ... Judy Garland is perfection, and makes me melt; when she sings a ballad, her eyes hypnotize ... nobody has eyes like hers. My infatuation with Judy goes beyond love.
Anybody else feel the sme way?
I have been needing to visit her birthplace/museum for a while now, but've never gotten the chance.

We have a totally awesome restored movie palace from the '20's (The Stanford Theatre, located in Downtown Palo Alto; if you're ever near here, you "have to" catch a double feature there!), but they haven't screened this in a while. Hopefully, soon. ASIB is by far Judy's greatest film.

tmm - you are far from alone in your love
For me, though, nothing beats OZ - there was something about that yearning that she was already unable to satisfy (even at that ridiculously young age) that just breaks my heart - and the preternatural talent!
I still think she's the greatest all-around entertainer of the 20th century.

Star is Born is the greatest, with Oz, Easter Parade and In the Good Old Summertime not far behind at all. Out of all the old films on the big screen, though, OZ is among the greatest ... greatest film ending in cinematic history! I "always" clap out loud, whether it be on TV, vdeo or in the theater. Whenever the show is on TV, I try to "never" miss an airing (even during TBS's three-night OZ marathons) :).
I also think that James Mason is flawless in this movie ... he always reminds me of Sam Neil.

I just watched STAR again this evening - and I always refer to it as Garland AND Mason's
I think Star is the Zenith of her movie career as a professional actress, but OZ touches my heart more from her as a person - if that makes any sense.

Definitely ... OZ takes us back to childhood, and Judy's performance is in a way more indicitve of how she feels her life to be, if that makes sense. No wonder that Rainbow was her most cherished and heartfelt song.
As a theatre buff, Star is the ultimate movie backstage musical, and the film is truly indicitive of how she sees her life ... if you watch her biography on TV or video, you know what I mean.

Thank you.
Thank you very much.
I can't express it any other way.
For with this awful trembling in my heart,
I really haven't anything to say.
I'm happy that you liked the show.
I'm grateful you liked me.
And I'm sure to you the tribute seemed quite right.
But...
If you knew of all the years
Of hopes and dreams and fears
You know it didn't happen overnight!
Overnight...

"Well, I hardly know where to start."

She was completely real.

Oh I love A Star Is Born! One of my favorite films, it made me a Garland fan. The first time I saw it I got chills during The Man That Got Away.
Girl Crazy! I'm not a huge fan of her films with Mickey Rooney (they're cute...but I just don't love them), but Girl Crazy is very entertaining!

Judy just makes tears come to my eyes. I am a HUGE Oz fan - something about the youth and optimism of that film just gets to me. I went to the singalong in NYC 2 years ago and it was great.
she will always be THE diva in my mind

judy garland gave so many heartfelt performances on screen.
i think OZ and SIB are definitive. god, i just love OZ. she never fails to move me to tears with her "Over The Rainbow".
i also loved her performance in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS. she was so charming and she looked so beautiful in this film, with her long flowing red hair. HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS is another one of her renditions that move me to tears and THE TROLLEY SONG is truly rapturous.

Posted: 2/25/07 at 7:52pmI love all of Garland's work. What about her dancing in "Easter Parade" and "Summer Stock"? But after years and years of loving the big ones, I'm starting to really appreciate the smaller films. I'm wild about GIRL CRAZY.

I forgot about "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"
I had my mp3 on random once and that came on while I was driving and I started to cry.
