After the initial WTF reaction, I think this may help the telecast get some viewers back.
Plus Heath's probable nomination.

I didn't see his ESPY hosting gig, so I'm a little uncertain. But I heard he was great.

They should ask Billy Crystal first and foremost and then look to other hosts if he declines. Always ask Billy should be the Academy's first rule.Its been a few years so he should be rested up by now and ready to do another show.Of course, they can always ask Heidi and Spencer (I wouldn't consider doing the Oscars for less than a hundred G's!)

I think Justin would be great! He's got the right combination of sass and class for a TV audience.

People genuinely like him too.

I could also see someone like Queen Latifah hosting. It needs to be someone that appeals to a wide audience.

Justin does.

And as much as I love Billy Crystal, his day has come and gone. He's too old now. The last time he hosted, it wasn't so good.

But I would probably rank him as the best Oscar ceremony host ever, when he first started doing it. And that includes Carson, Hope, and all of them!

After the shock wears off, I can kind of see that working. But the Academy, and the film industry, have to keep remembering that the key to the ratings success of the show is not the host, but the popularity of the films nominated...so Hollywood needs to get back to the business of big-grossing movies that have some real quality in them!

FYI - There's clips of Justin hosting the ESPYS on another BWW thread about it (I would post the link to the thread, but BWW is not working on my computer today...)

If they really wanted to see a ratings increase, all they'd have to do is nominate The Dark Knight for Best Picture. I guarantee the ratings would go up. I'm just saying.....

But getting back to the topic, I would not be unopposed to seeing Justin Timberlake host the Oscars. He'd probably be a lot more interesting than last year's host. Of course I'd love to have Billy Crystal host again.

I must be the only one who fails to see the appeal of this Grade A Douchebag.

But hey, if it brings in more viewers to an otherwise sleeper of an awards show, more power to him.

Well. I am not a big Justin fan but I will say he was hilarious on the Espy awards. If he is as funny on the Oscars as he was on the Espys then it will be a great show. Just sayin' P.S. Just glad they didn't get Ryan Seacrest!

I didn't see the ESPY's either, but Justin is funny. He was hilarious on SNL.

His SNL appearances have made for their funniest episodes in years. I find him utterly charming; this could work (and get the younger demographic they're needing). Though, no matter how many youth friendly celebrities they put on the show, it's not going to change the fact that some people just aren't Oscar watchers.

At age 9, I watched the oscars for the oscars. Not the host. And the 3 out of 4 times he was on (2 hosting, and 1 guesting. The other was pointless) and all 3 times I laughed my ass off during Barry Gibb Talk Show.

He's a faker, and you've been taken in by his con. And in doing so, you are enabling him. He is doing more damage to aspergers than papa's words ever could. -Chane/Liverpool on me having asperger syndrome.

I'm pretty sure that if he gets the gig, he'll be the youngest host in Oscar history.

He was fantastic on the ESPYs, but I doubt he did his own writing for that so I am betting his success would be more dependent on the script writing.

He also made a brief appearance on the TV Land awards this year, saluting Mike Myers.

He was charming and hilarious. And very accessible.

I hope they ask him to do the Oscars, quite honestly.

That, plus a very likely posthumous nod for Heath Ledger should get people watching this year.
