She discusses her AIDS activism, and the marriage equality fight...

And personally I found this line
Particularly horrifying has always been the behavior of those who spend every Sunday in church under the auspices of "judge not, lest ye be judged" and every other day that ends in "y" deciding who's going to hell.
especially brilliant, as that is *exactly* how I felt when I used to go to church.

If The View wants an intelligent, well-spoken, "conservative" voice on the show, they need to ditch Hasselbitch and hire Kate Shindle.

Agreed.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Kate Shindle, aside from being gorgeous and having an insane voice, is really really intelligent.

To give the devil her due, isn't Hasselbeck quite outspoken in favor of marriage equality?

^Maybe she is now. However, at one point, she famously stated that it would lead to people wanting to "marry their toaster."

I'm willing to allow people evolution (or creationism, if you prefer) in their thinking.

I think a lot of people have changed their minds on this issue. I'm glad when they get it right.

Not sure where Elisabeth stands these days, but Sherri Shepherd is not surprisingly anti-gay marriage, and said on the show once that she doesn't understand the gay lifestyle. Maybe she should ask the guy who maintains her wigs.

From an August 2010 HuffPo article on Hasselbeck:

In a two-part interview with Fancast, the conservative co-host of "The View" came out in support of gay marriage and described President Obama as "an incredibly cool guy."

"I am not ultra-ultra-conservative on every issue. I actually support gay marriage," she told Fancast in part one. "I think the gay marriage thing would definitely surprise people. I mean, for some people, it will surprise them to the point that they won't want to hear it. 'No, that can't be, I really want to have this sort of idea of her in my head,' so I sort of rain on their parade there."

I like to imagine Kate Shindle belting high E's as she's writing that article. It gives me gay pride.

Im glad Hasselbeck has come around on that issue. I'll give her credit where credit is due.

People not directly affected by issues such as marriage equality don't always give the subject much thought, and their public pronouncement oftentimes reflect this.

Sherri Shepherd's comments are not necessarily indicitive of deep-rooted bigotry. She is just an ignoramus.

And I sometimes think Hasselbeck deliberately takes "liberal" stances on some issues in order to lend some sort of credence to her conservative-leaning arguments, if that makes any sense.

Agreed...I don't know how someone who is such an ignorant moron gets to share a platform with Barbara Walters.

Ignorance or deep-rooted bigotry...I'm not sure which is worse.
