did anyone watch the premiere last night?
I love Selma Blair and of course Molly Shannon, and I thought it was very, very funny! Hopefully viewers will catch on, it shows a lot of promise.
I've never seen the original from Australia, so I can't compare the two, but the show last night was a laugh-a-minute for me!

Unfortunately, I cannot agree Pippin. I think Shannon is very talented, and is the best of the cast, but even she isn't playing the humor right. Blair is one of the worst actresses out there, imo...and she proved it last night.
One of the big charms of the original, which I highly recommend, is that K&K and the lot are not actually tacky, they are inappropriate and behind the times.
A broader approach to the humor might help. I expect this to be cancelled in 3 weeks. What is really sad about that is the original K&K, Jane Turner and Gina Riley, are exec. producers.
Now we need dvds of the Aussie version on a format that can be sold here in the US.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 12:40pmI wanted to watch it, but it conflicted with two recordings on my dvr, so I'm going to have to wait for it to come online. The reviews haven't been pretty, alas.

awwww, that's sad.
I know it's not gonna be for everyone, and I agree that it will probably get cancelled very quickly. It just happens to fit my personal sense of humor though.
at least the costumes are hideously hilarious.

I agree with matt rauch's review...1 out of 9 stars:
"
The bad news involves new comedy, two of the worst I've seen in ages. NBC's Kath & Kim is a hopelessly unfunny travesty of the outrageous Australian sitcom about a dysfunctional mother-daughter team. Molly Shannon works too hard as mother Kath, and dour Selma Blair doesn't seem to be trying at all — except at being trying — as her immature daughter Kim. It's a waste of talent, a waste of promising source material, and a waste of time. Any other night, this would be the worst new comedy on the air."

Posted: 10/10/08 at 12:50pmWas Molly playing anyone other than herself? I can take her in small doses, but can't see her as a lead in a weekly sitcom.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 12:52pmI agree. Very small doses.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 12:54pmThe promos and countless New York City buses carrying advertisements made this seem semi-enjoyable, but now I am afraid to watch.

Selma annoyed me as did that talentless Mikey Day as her husband. The only part I liked was the scene in the electronics store when Whitney Houston was playing. Cuz let's face it classic Whitney is awesome!!

Posted: 10/10/08 at 1:07pmMolly Shannon is playing Selma Blair's mother? Did her character give birth to her when she 10?

i was really excited about this... have never seen the original australian version, but molly shannon and John Michael Higgins? awesome!
unfort, i thought it was terrible... after 10 min I wanted to delete my DVR series recording. I made it all the way thru and will give it a few more episodes because sometimes it takes a while for a show to catch its footing. but i am not optimistic.

Oh. Thanks, Doodle. Shannon and Blair look like contemporaries, though. From the promo clips I only half-watched in a cab, I thought this was a comedy about a lesbian couple.
Duh.

I was super disappointed...didn't laugh once. Molly and Slema are totally miscast, which is a shame because i like both of them.
I thought Higgins and the other actor were much better suited for their roles.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 1:36pmI just watched, and things that made me laugh during the promos fell flat in the context of the show.

That's how to play Kath Day-Knight!
Check the other (few) clips on youtube of the original.
