Just stumbled on this and was instantly intrigued seeing Hepburn imperiously impose her will on the Cavett set.

Exceptional actress, fascinating personality, and clearly high maintenance.

Turtleneck and sandals. What a fashion faux paux.

This never gets old. I got the DVD with the entire interview and she is great.I love how she gets right into it and starts moving furniture around with the crew. Was Kate a diva? Hell yes and she deserved to be as demanding as she wants! There will never be another star like her.

I believe the story is that she hadn't actually agreed to the interview; she came to the studio for a sort of pre-interview. And Cavett told his people "Look, she may not come back, so let's keep the cameras rolling." After messing around with the furniture, she decided she was happy and they kept going, resulting in this legendary interview.

I love that she moves the table herself.

It was Kate's world, Dick just lived in it. A fun interview to watch.

I remember when Phil Donahue interviewed her when her autobiography came out. He went through the interview reading excerpts and asking her questions. At the end, he asked her to sign his copy of her book. She took the pen and the book and then looked at him. He said "You have no idea who I am, do you?" and she said, "No."

Jordan, the interview is in pieces on YouTube but here is a good portion of it.

She opens up and becomes more relaxed throughout the interview.

I always liked one of her famous quotes - "I don't care what is written about me so long as it isn't true."

And I think she stuck to that herself.

"If we can survive this carpet we can survive anything!"

"Whose idea was this?"

"Make it brown. Then paint this brown!"

"Let us be the color!"

She was singlehandedly trying to save the world from the 70s.

I love in the actual interview her answer to if she'd ever smoked pot.

"No," she said as only Hepburn could say it, "stoned cold sober I find myself absolutely fascinating." There was a pause and then she let out a huge laugh.
