Sort of, theatre fan.
I really can't explain it. something about her is different. And the way she describes her brother doesn't sit well with me.
We all have our opinions and I'm not much of a fan of Kathy right now.

A local charity booked her for 10,000 during the first season of D-list. Her quote the following year was close to 100k. I think she needs to own up a little that she is no longer D-list. I think that is why her last season felt more scripted than usual. She is having to create D-list scenarios.

But the whole D-list schtick is just that, her schtick. The way Joan Rivers kept calling herself a bow-wow even though she OBVIOUSLY paid a lot of money on plastic surgery because she was under the illusion that it made her look better.
Kathy actually can have it both ways because although she is probably not technically a D-lister anymore, no matter how many awards she wins through sheer force of will she will never, ever be an A-lister by virtue of the way she constructs her act. It's impossible. She definitely tries to deflate the insanity exhibited by the people higher than she on the Hollywood food chain, and for that she will never truly rise above her station.

I assume much of her show is scripted. As long as its funny, I really don't care. If I'm not mistaken, she talks in her book about how she and her ex pretended to be happily married for the second season of the show.
I can get someone being tired of her, but if you know her at all, wouldn't you expect a huge media blitz of her own making to shill her book?
I just don't see her having become what she once made fun of.

I think Namo covered most of it. What I think is truly brilliant about Kathy is her ability to laugh at herself. Yes, she makes fun of A-listers and their behavior. But part of her D-lister act is her unapologetic obsession with the A-list sect and her hijinks involved in achieving the same celebrity. Her shameless enthusiasm to reap the same rewards is both genuine and part of the joke. She may be mocking the system, but from the beginning, she openly admits to the guilty pleasure she derives from her ambition to be a part of it all. She has always played both sides of the fence and she does it well. I don't think she ever sold out her persona. She's always been pretty open about her desire to be a huge star and try her hand at all the whacked out crap that the megalomaniacs are into to see what all the fuss is about.
Jane - The book clears up the issue about her brother and her attitude towards him. If she sounds detached, it's because she needed to take that position pretty early in life.
