Is it just me or are her songs starting to sound a lot alike..
She's the only pop singer that I listen to because I've had a fetish with her since forever. But, I dunno my mom says it's because now that I have like 45 Broadway soundtracks, it's different. The way she sees it, people who are subject to Broadway music, which is always original, think that other pop songs seem mediocre.
....I think that's true.... I remember reading a while ago about how musical theatre fans are just more cultured period. Which I think is also true.
What do you think?
No, none of the songs on Breakaway sound alike...
..I dunno there were some parts in "Behind these Hazel Eyes" that I thought back to "Since You've Been Gone"..
I could be hallucinating though
I find both of Kelly's albums to be quite versitile. While I find many singer's albums have songs that sound alike, Kelly isn't one of them. I hope she gets to do a "standards" album, one of these days.
I know there is a backlash against celebrities on Broadway these days, but I would LOVE to see this girl on the Great White Way, and SOOON. She could sing the hell out of any of the scores out there. I think the obvious role that comes to mind is Elphaba, but I think she could even go for some more comedic stuff. Not to mention she is gorgeous.

I think there are just as many braindead cretins listening to musicals as there are listening to pop.
Do people honestly think that "Wicked" is some sort of elite, sophisticated level of musical composition?
For me, it's most definitely true that I think pop music is mediocre because of Broadway. My friends force me to listen to pop, and my ears ache for Sweeney Todd or Sunday in the Park With George.
I would give anything to hear that girl tackle "Let's Hear it for the Boy".
As for pop music, there are certainly a lot of mediocre songs on the radio. However, I look at music as I look at movies. If I want something filling, I'll listen to Green Day, Nirvana, etc. If I just want to bob my head and enjoy, then I'll pop in Lohan or something to that effect. That's the difference between "Requiem for a Dream" and "Clueless".
I just don't like the Hip-Hop style of shouting that passes for Pop singing. All show, no real guts. Sara Ramirez does a great job parodying this type of singing in Spamalot. Maybe because I was brought up on Opera, Broadway and Janis....

compare 50 Cent to Wicked. yes, Wicked is very cultured compared to pop or R&B or whatever that's called
But I think they mean shows like La Boheme, RENT, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunday in the PArk with George, etc etc..
I think 'they' are pretentious idiots with delusions of being upper class.
Anyone reading this board is going to realize just how UNsophisticated the hardcore musical theater audience really is.

Careful. Those are very touchy grounds you're flirting with. Classical music is no more "cultured" than pop, musical theatre is no more "cultured" than R&B. Death metal is no more "cultured" than rap. You might say that Wicked is more sophisticated that 50 Cent. That may be true. But each genre of music has its own traits that make it more cultured than the others.
I'm not saying you're wrong. But don't make it such an absolute statement.

I love Kelly. She's a Texan. And I love her two albums, not to mention the "Behind These Hazel Eyes" video is great.
And I'm not gonna comment on the whole culture thing. Ironic, huh?
Kelly is AWESOME! I love her, and don't think her songs sound the same at all. Right now, my two favorite songs are "Behind these hazel eyes" (I agree, captain, GREAT video!) and "Because of you"

Right now I am in love with "Beautiful Distaster" It is just an amazing song. As far as videos go "Since You Been Gone" is a lot of fun. I can think of many ex's I would love to do that too.
She just performed on the Today Show. She sounded like crap and looked like a whore. And she was acting odd. I think she's on something.

Curtainup, re: you think she's on something...from the people I know who know her, I can almost guarantee you that she is the LAST girl who would ever be on 'something'. Her Today show performances were fairly rough this morning, but she had been up nearly all night after headlining at the Z100 Zootopia last night.
I love the girl, and though she does occassionally suffer from vocal fatigue or colds/sinus infections, when she is in good voice she is really stunning. She is one of the few singers I've ever heard sound better and more thrilling LIVE than on a studio recording. Her technique and range has greatly improved since her American Idol days, and as long as she has enough time to rest her voice, she is wonderful.
She has been busting her ass on a very strenuous solo tour since March. She's been doing usually 6 shows a week, travelling each day, doing radio, a few TV spots, a video shoot, etc., and even planning the next leg of her tour.
I would love to see her in a Broadway show, but with how hot her recording career is right now (three songs in the Top 40 of the Hot 100 Billboard chart, with two of them also registering in the Top 3 of Pop 100), I don't expect to see her on Broadway anytime soon, unfortunately.

I would like to saee her as the first ever "age appropriate" Annie Oakley on Broadway. With a Frank Butler who's 15 years older than her. Just like it was in reality.
that's what we see musicals for...historical accuracy! (just joshing, Jon, she'd be a great Annie Oakley)
