Posted: 9/13/08 at 1:32pmI like cheese corn. There is a place in Chicago on Michigan Ave. that makes the BEST popcorn. It makes me want to move back there! I can't remember the name of it, though.

Posted: 9/13/08 at 1:34pmYou know the caramel kind? Well, I'm in trouble if i buy any of it. I eat it all in one sitting! Much too good. OMG

Love it.
I try not to eat much of it... but once in a while...
My dad just discovered it recently at an outdoor event, and he's addicted now, so he says. He's trying to "limit" himself though.
But he's always looking for the next outdoor event... more for the chance to eat kettle corn again than the actual event itself.

clever name - you must be thinking of Garrett's Popcorn.
Actually, the Michigan Ave. store just closed (they lost their lease), but there are like 4 others in Downtown Chicago, plus they how have stores at O'Hare Airport and in New York City. See their webside below

This is funny because I have been obsessed with kettle corn recently.
This is what I always get (the regular kettle corn, not the cheddar, bbq stuff). They sell them at Whole Foods, and also that popcorn store in Times Square. It tastes better than the fresh stuff they sell.

Posted: 9/13/08 at 3:04pmLove it! I've tried making it myself at home, but it never comes out as good as when I have it at carnivals and such.
re: Kettle Corn#11
Posted: 9/13/08 at 3:24pmThe kind I'm talking about is when you go to a street fair and they sell it in around 20 different flavors, in clear plastic bags any size you want. they also give out free samples.

Posted: 9/13/08 at 3:25pmLike it. But I prefer cheese popcorn. I visited the Cabot Cheese plant in Vermont last year and bought a shaker of powdered Cabot Cheddar. Sprinkled on freshly popped corn...it's heaven. Off topic, but I also discovered their horseradish cheddar while I was there. Best cheese ever. Mmmm...cheesy.

OH YES, KETTLE CORN. Great, now I'm hungry.
But please, never say 'Cabot cheese' to me. I visited that plant when I was ten or eleven years old, and I can still remember the smell. Just seeing the brand name makes me cringe now. (And the rest of my family loves the powdered cheese shaker and Cabot cheese in general, so that means I cringe a lot.)

Posted: 9/13/08 at 6:59pmYes Garrett's popcorn in Chicago is quite good (although the line is always very long and slow). Its great they're here in NYC now. I think I may walk to the corner store now and pick up some Smartfood popcorn : )

Posted: 9/13/08 at 7:40pmThanks for the Garretts link. I'm so excited there are three in NY. Yay!!

The best is the kind you get from the guys at the fair who are actually stirring it in the kettle! I can buy the biggest bag and if I'm not careful, it can be gone that day!
Popsecret or Orville Redenbacher used to make a version of kettle corn for the microwave that was absolutely delicious. The closest thing to the fair popcorn I've had. However, they discontinuted it because the sugar got so hot in the "coating" process that it was burning people. Of course, there were tons of warnings on the packages, but when did American consumers every listen to those?
re: Kettle Corn#18
Posted: 9/14/08 at 6:26pmI'd rather have kettle corn than popcorn any day of the week
re: Kettle Corn#19
Posted: 9/14/08 at 6:47pmI like it too! In fact I was at a fair just yesterday and had some.
re: Kettle Corn#20
Posted: 9/14/08 at 8:41pmGreat place in Times Square behind the Renaissance Hotel that has all types of popcorn including kettle corn in knockout flavors.
re: Kettle Corn#21
Posted: 9/14/08 at 8:52pmThose are the same people who sell them at the street fairs in NY. I usually buy a $6 bag of the caramel and if I'm not careful, I can eat the whole thing at once!

Posted: 9/15/08 at 12:29amI can pass on Kettle Corn. Don't like it sweet and salty. Nothing like fresh popped with just a hint of unsalted butter.
